---------------------------------------------------------- I wonder if she presented any of this in Austin this year? ----------------------------------------------------------- SOURCE: www.acponline.org/about_acp/chapters/fl/mtg_syllabus09.pdf( page 111 )DIETHYL CARBAMAZPINE IN THE TREATMENT OF MORGELLON'S DISEASE ( DELUSIONAL PARASITOSIS)Anubha Mutaneja, Neelam taneja Uppal, M.D. Maulana Azad Medical School , New Delhi, IndiaAbstract Text: DI ETHYL CARBAMAZAPINE (DEC) IN THE TREATMENT OF MORGELLON'S DISEASE OBJECTIVE: To identify and treat patients with the symptoms of Morgellon's Disease METHODS; Patients with sign and symptoms of Morgellon's Disease were identified Several parasitic laboratory tests were performed. 4 patients received treatment Di ethyl Carbamazpine with their own arrangement and reported response. RESULTS: All patients reported improvement in certain symptoms of Morgellon's disease. CONCLUSION: Patients with Morgellon's disease complain of symptoms of crawling sensation, skin lesions and fiber like organisms coming out of their skin, scalp and bowel. There is cross reaction seen with tests for filarial, schistosoma and strongyloides in certain patients. The filariform symptoms resolved with the administration of DEC. Hence, we conclude the DEC may be used in certain patients suffering with certain symptoms of Morgellon 's Disease. Date Time: Tue Jul 28 08:01:07 2009

Kmarie, I started to respond but lost it to an errant key stroke, which Im brilliant at lately. I did go to the Conference link and noticed that this was a Poster Presentation at a medical Conference. In the Conf. literature, her poster is titled "Morgellons (Delusional Parasitosis)." That makes me very aprehensive about what she has to offer... my personal, well-conditioned response. She also mentions "some cross reactivity to tests for filaria, schistosomes and strongyloides" in some patients. From my brief "look-see" that's a positive immune test response to organisms close to but not exactly what one has...in my very humble understanding. If that's even close to the meaning of cross-reaction, doesn't that suggest that those patients who do cross react actually have parasites that are "genetically" similar to the three names above? I dont think delusional ideation would cause an antibody response on immune testing for parasites, but hey, what do I know? interesting info waldenflo

I haven't heard much about the conference or whether Dr. Uppal mentioned DEC or not, but it's a mean and nasty drug according to a couple of people I knew in Northern California. Made them gosh-awfully sick and they had to stop taking it.
Actually, it was my understanding DEC was taken off the market, but maybe that was just the rumor mill at work.

For the 2010 Presentations by Dr. Uppal, this is what is listed as her topic below:www.thenmo.org/3RD_Annual_Conference_Announcement.pdf#zoom=100Neelam Uppal, M.D. Pinellas, FL. Dr. Neelam Uppall maintains a private practice in Infectious Disease in Pinellas, FL. She attended medical school at the Christian Medical College in India; completed residency in Internal Medicine at Jersey City Medical Center, followed by a Fellowship in Infectious Disease at New York Hospital of Queens. Topic: 'Diary of Morgellon's - A Discussion"I just wondered if she mentioned anything from her paper posted at the beginning of this thread and if Dr. Uppal said anything about it. (i.e., the DEC) --- like any updates? --------------------------------------------------------------------- Sid and Bannanny, I know they use this drug for heartworm so it's not investigational for them. I was interested there was any "PEOPLE" news about this drug since she wrote that article about one year ago. Thanks for responding! ------------------------------------------------------------ JJ, Adding on here cuz I just saw your response, (we must have been responding at the same time). DEC has been around a while and I too wondered about it being still "investigational". I have more reading to do on it. Thanks for the links, I will check them out!

Hi KMarie2, Thanks for feed-back. I did spend a long time scrolling thru the FL Chapter American College of Physicians Conference Notes (2009) which is where your first link took me. In the FL ACP Conference notes, I thought that Dr. Uppal and two other MDs had a "poster presentation" on "DEC in the Treatment of Morgellons Disease (Delusional Parasitosis)". I did not think that the poster presentation was from Austin, nor did I confuse it with Dr. Rasmussen's presentation which Ive read and savored. God knows, since thos infx, ate my frontal lobe, I am the "Queeen of Confusion," so I could well be way off base. Ive since read other replies and links on Dr. Uppals. treatment of pts with Morgs. She seems to be a compassionate and caring MD advocate on our behalf, so NAMASTE Dr. Uppal! If in fact the DEC Treatment info is from the '09 FL ACP Conf., it may well be that she and the co-authors simply refer to Morg buy it's aka designation as DOP, although by that time, CDC had removed DOP from its Div. of Parasitic Diseases site. The info ion Investigational drugs is also helpful, so thanks all for that...to be pursued! The very concept of heartworms makes me want to cry...is THAT what we have? My vet had a badly- infested canine heart in a jar, with a matted tangle of heartworms clogging every vein and artery, that grossed me out! Little did I know... flo
