Re: At last "Morgellons" on CDC site. « Result #1 on Oct 1, 2007, 1:19pm »
I've been gone for a long time from here, but I couldn't help but notice that no one mentioned the fact that the CDC was supposed to have started an investigation in California early in 06. What happened with that? Why are they just now starting to take "bids for contractors" but yet they are naming Kaiser? My ears are still hanging pretty low as I didn't see anything new or take this as progression. I'm a little suspicious as to why they chose that company. I am not competely satisfied with the explainations on their site and I can't shake the words "cause and cure" from my mind. Maybe you guys can update me since I've been missing in action lately.
Also, as far as the law suits go, no one has a case until there is a proven connection as to who is at fault here. I hope a lawyer out there is willing to take all this info and MAKE the connection. Believe me, when there has been one, there will be thousands of law firms soliciting for clients to sign up. Plaintiff firms watch this kind of stuff and will pounce when there is legal standing. However, with that being said, I certainly do NOT want to discourage anyone from seeking representation if you can find an attorney that will take on this kind of case right now. (remember Erin Brockovich?) Keyword: DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT!
I have been loud and clear in the past about a "class action" type of situation when the cases are ripe, but each person will need to determine what is best.

There are several here in Alabama! My Mom, Sister and Uncle. My other sister had it but she passed away in a car accident during a seizure which we believe to be caused by this. I used to be very active within this message board, and getting the word out, but have been through some major changes lately. Trying to get back involved.

pez, I had a thread "Alabama Activity" some time ago requesting the same info. You may get some responses that they have already submitted the info. I am interested in how many newcomers will come forward.
However, its the anonymity that I argue against because it somehow conveys the fact that we are standing up demanding help, but unwilling to put our faces where our mouths are...
I realize that some people (as did my family) experience harrassment upon coming forward, and demanding aswers, BUT I think that trend has subsided due to the momentum of the information becoming available on the media.
I would like to compare your responses to the stories and data I have. I have long argued for a centralized organization of data and concentrated efforts. It's very hard to galvanize a group due to the distance, etc.

WHOA! Sorry Jane but I have to disagree with you right there. There is no need for to validate the sufferings of this disease, whatever it is to "Morgellons watch!!!"
DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE THAT ANY OF THE SUFFERS OF THIS DISEASE, WHATEVER IT IS, HAS TO BE BACKED UP. AND NEVER, EVER BE ASHAMED OF HAVING THIS.
The best way to fight for ourselves is to VALIDATE the sufferings, VALIDATE our symptoms, VALIDATE our progress, or lack thereof through the medical profession, VALIDATE skin products, (not in a way to support "matchbox" products) and VALIDATE TRUE damages. Monetary, mental and physical damages.
This is done by a logical, systematic process of data and fact collection presented in a professional, succinct manner and to dispute and reputiate opposing arguments thereon.
I have been lacking in my tyraides of what needs to be done here lately due to certain circumstances, but I am getting my legs back and if anyone wants to review my previous posts, I invite you to do so you can see what I am all about.
I believed my family without suffering from any of the symptoms myself and I have been stomping, screaming and talking to anyone who I think my help every since they got so sick. They can't even function well enought to find out what they have! So I have taken up the torch. I have for over a year now.
The place to solicit help (from non-sufferers) is not here. It is out in the community, media and everywhere else. Honestly, the people here need help and support. Most members here are simply not healthy enough to do what really needs to be done to elicit a response from the public.
So Trans, if you really want to help, get to know the stories of the people who suffer from this and decifer for yourself what this is all about and THEN decide what you can do to help.
Do you help the ones who lost their homes and everything in them? Do you help the ones whose marriages fell apart because of an unsupporting spouse? Do you help the ones who lsot custody of their children because the quacks, oops, I mean doctors decided the parents were inflicting this pain on their own children or do you help the ones who are homeless? Let's not forget about the ones who are living a lie and are afraid to let their family or spouse know what they are really suffering from. Can you imagine having your own family putting you away because they don't believe you?
I don't mean to sound like I oppose your help, but please know that this is a very, very difficult problem to just "casually" join into. Please don't waste the energy of people who are very worn down by this only to take this lightly.

As a paralegal, it's hard to get out of that mindset. Didn't know how one little comment could get folks off the subject.
Back to Dr. Phil, yesterday they asked my sister to talk to Dr. Phil on the show in CA about this!! We should hear more details soon. I sure hope it works out.
I still have the information a lot of you submitted to me months ago from "Alabama Activity" and will make sure Dr. Phil hears your stories.
I welcome anyone else's submission. You can e-mail it to me here at this site.

Southcity is an old hat at this. He has a website that's pretty extensive. I haven't been there in a while, so I don't know what his latest info blogs are. Used to be here quite a bit.

Re: are attitudes changing? « Result #7 on Jan 17, 2007, 7:01pm »
My concern is that it will end up like the report from the Duval County Health Department. It appears that most of the reports fizzled out, as you can see from a portion of this report issued from that same department from 2005, to wit:
"Of the 76 total inquiries, 65 were callers who believed they had Morgellons Disease. These callers were classified as cases or non-cases based on the initial call. Thirty-seven of these were lost to follow-up, most often because they could not be reached by telephone or they were a resident of another state (out-of-state callers were referred to the respective health department). Of the remaining 28, only eight Duval County residents met the case definition. The other 20 had other conditions such as MRSA, scabies, allergies, or did not have symptoms consistent with other description of Morgellons disease. DCHD also received calls from professionals interested in researching this disease and also calls from the public requesting general information."
and
"...further dermatological research is not practical. DCHD then consulted with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, GA. The reply was the same in that there was no interest to support research into Morgellons disease. Additionally, only eight Duval County cases were identified. This was not a large enough sample to conduct sound epidemiological research. Finally, most of the cases suffered from other comorbidities, including depression, anxiety, and thoughts of suicide. DCHD Epi staff felt it was a priority to refer these individuals to seek medical attention before participating in any research study, here or anywhere else."
Since the CDC will not divulge any info as of yet, how can we ensure that this same scenerio isn't repeated on a national level??
Everyone has to participate!! I believe there are still too many who are not willing to come forward in the public realm for fear of discrimination, losing their job or worse and ridicule. So we end up coming out of the gate strong only to whither away.

I agree. My mother had to walk away from her house and is scared to take anything in it! We warned the law firm that foreclosed on the property that there was a health hazard in that house and to have it checked out. She lost everything in there. Its worse than a fire because you know your things are still in there. It tortures us day and night.
I have been working so long on getting the word out and asking for help that I'm glad it seems to have worked a little. First a news interview and now getting called from Dr. Phil's show.

Well, if being contacted by the show means that they are interested in hearing everyone's story then maybe they will ask my family. Sort of show notice if they are to air this on the 25th....
