BILLBOARD MAGAZINE
Joni Mitchell Hopes To Spread 'Fiddle' Joni Mitchell February 20, 2009 03:30 PM ET
Gary Graff, Detroit With "The Fiddle and the Drum," her collaboration with the Alberta Ballet, recently documented on DVD, Joni Mitchell is looking forward to spreading the piece worldwide.
"The whole thing in a certain way is out of my hands," Mitchell tells Billboard.com. "It's going to be featured at the (2010) Winter Olympics in Vancouver. We've had a request from Alabama, of all places, to play. It depends on money and a lot of things.
"My art dealer spoke to someone who runs a concert hall in New York, and they said they would take it there if I appeared. I don't know how much of that there would be, but I love going with the company. They're my kids at this point. It's just been such a delight working with these people."
Choreographed by Jean Grande-Maitre with Mitchell's full participation, "The Fiddle and the Drum" blends together her music (including several songs from her latest album, 2007's "Shine"), dance and war-themed images from her latest visual art project, "Green Flag Song." It was first conceived as an autobiographical piece -- deemed "a little fluffy for the times" by Mitchell -- then a sort-form ballet before growing to a 48-minute production captured on the new DVD.
Most recently Mitchell and Grande-Maitre have expanded "The Fiddle and the Drum" yet again with four more songs, including her iconic "Woodstock." The full-length piece has already played in Saskatoon, rolls into Edmonton on Saturday [Feb. 21] and returns to Calgary on Feb. 26, which will be filmed for a hoped-for future DVD release.
"The Fiddle and the Drum" remains the primary focus for Mitchell, who's also in the midst of treatments for Morgellons syndrome, an infectious and potentially debilitating skin condition that's put other endeavors on hold for now. "I think it's quite an interesting entertainment," she says of the ballet. "It acts like a play even though it's modular and non-linear, and people respond to it that way in the theater. It's such a joy for me. It's thrilling."

kmarie - Well, it's not a medical article - it's Billboard. I don't think that's really what's important here, it's that someone of her prominence has come forward. I think this is a hugely significant disclosure that may lead the way for others in the public eye to follow suit. I grew up on Joni Mitchell...even went to Woodstock (for REAL)...and always loved her music. Especially the song "Both Sides Now". It takes on a whole new meaning in light of Morgellons. Bessie

If anyone can sing our song its her. I knew it was just a matter of time before someone of her caliber would suffer. I pray she gets the attention of other prominent musicians. And I pray they sing it for all of us. Another beautiful soul. I hate to hear of anyone with this. Sing Joni sing.

KMARIE! I LOVE YOUR HAPPY GUYS! OMG that is so damn cute!
I think this is pretty interesting because Morgs ain't no joke and for some one famous or semi-famous is open with Morgs that says a lot about that person! I mean hey, Morgs is different then Lyme. Some one has Lyme, fine...! But Morgs...whoa...some one openly admitting to the world they've got worms! Ha! I love it!
Okay I know not everyone thinks Morgs has something to do with worms but I do ;Dnot like ya'll don't already know that. But even some one in the public view admitting they FEEL like they've got worms is pretty cool!
I looked her up and neither me or my daughter know who she is. Anything popular any one knows about?

How about Woodstock, Circle Game, etc.
She's not just famous, she's an icon. Rolling Stone magazine called her "one of the greatest songwriters ever. In 2003 Rolling Stone named her the 72nd greatest guitarist of all time; she was the highest-ranked woman on the list.
Both Sides Now: Rows and floes of angel hair And ice cream castles in the air And feather canyons evrywhere Ive looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun They rain and snow on evryone So many things I would have done But clouds got in my way Ive looked at clouds from both sides now From up and down, and still somehow Its cloud illusions I recall I really dont know clouds at all
Moons and junes and ferris wheels The dizzy dancing way you feel As evry fairy tale comes real Ive looked at love that way
But now its just another show You leave em laughing when you go And if you care, dont let them know Dont give yourself away
Ive looked at love from both sides now From give and take, and still somehow Its loves illusions I recall I really dont know love at all
Tears and fears and feeling proud To say I love you right out loud Dreams and schemes and circus crowds Ive looked at life that way
But now old friends are acting strange They shake their heads, they say Ive changed Well somethings lost, but somethings gained In living evry day
Ive looked at life from both sides now From win and lose and still somehow Its lifes illusions I recall I really dont know life at all Ive looked at life from both sides now From up and down, and still somehow Its lifes illusions I recall I really dont know life at all

www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgMEPk6fvpgCarrie maybe you will recognise this one come on you know it sing along ;D They paved paradise And put up a parking lot With a pink hotel, a boutique And a swinging hot spot Dont it always seem to go That you dont know what youve got Till its gone They paved paradise And put up a parking lot They took all the trees Put em in a tree museum And they charged the people A dollar and a half just to see em Dont it always seem to go That you dont know what youve got Till its gone They paved paradise And put up a parking lot Hey farmer farmer Put away that d.d.t. now Give me spots on my apples But leave me the birds and the bees Please! Dont it always seem to go That you dont know what youve got Till its gone They paved paradise And put up a parking lot Late last night I heard the screen door slam And a big yellow taxi Took away my old man Dont it always seem to go That you dont know what youve got Till its gone They paved paradise And put up a parking lot

Browncircles the song you posted sounded like I've probably heard it before but not as much as the Taxi one. And YOUNG? Huh...I feel like an old lady! I hope she speaks out more about what has happened to her, her "treatment" and how she does.

OMG, Sir Mr. Ant has, and is suffering a broken heart. It's so late, I suppose I have erased all this post I just spent the last hour writting.. I do appreciate your letting the group express our devastation over this. Unfortunately for me, I will have to continue later, as now I have to go to bed, but I would like to point out the major consequence of this. As soon as the damage had occurred, the morgs immediately raced for their position to plop their slime bodies in, and out, around the broken heart, once filled with that burning desire of which nothing could take its place. So thank you very much, & good night, freaky I do hope you will in time, mend your ways, you ole whipper snapper. haha

"They paved paradise And put up a parking lot"
I believe this song was about a box-car diner named "Paradise" which was torn down to put in a parking lot, and new hotel. It represented "community", but lost out to money. There is a movie about it.
I pray Joni Mitchell will speak out for the rest of us. I would like to know her morgie story, how it all began for her.

What's the story behind that pic? Carrie I guess you wouldn't like Neal Young ether cuz he's got one of those high pitched voices that you have to grow to love I guess with both artiest the magick is in the lyrics On the cookie controversy the aforementioned broken heart cookie really does not have any deep hidden meaning I just happened to be talking to Cheetah on the phone when she had her grand kids over to her place for a Valentine cookie baking party --joking with her I said in a winy voice "Do I get a cookie too? So She made me the broken heart cookie took a picture of it and sent it to me I thought it would make a good valentine for my signature space for valentines day I ask her later what had happened to my cookie whether she had filched it without my permission and ate it? She laughed and said that her grandkids came over the next day and were sorta disgusted with her because she had not covered their batch of Valentine cookies up so they wouldn't dry out and they got hard as a rock so they all went in the trash including my cookie At this vary moment at the Ogden city landfill there is probably a happy little rat with cute little ears and a twitchy little nose and Bucky little teeth nibbling on my cookie Anyway that's the story of the cookie --All I have left of it is this picture so sad
