There has been such controversy and inaccurate information surrounding this forum's policies that the subject of banning deserves its own thread. Due to the anonymity afforded by the internet, people are given a feeling of power but it does not allow anyone to be rude, mean, or downright ugly toward others.
First and foremost, we reserve the right to ban anyone that we wish, plain and simple. Most forums feel like we do, in that banning doesn't occur unless one does something to deserve it. However, we still can ban anyone at anytime without reason, if we so decide.
Much time and effort is put into this forum so we can help as many as possible. We appreciate and enjoy the membership here but the fact remains that we are moderating it and when we do something, it's for good reason. You may not agree and most likely you don't have all the facts, but it's still our right as Moderators to act on disturbing situations as we see fit. Please know that as of this date, we have not banned anyone without good reason.
It also stands to reason that if someone is banned from this forum, they are not allowed to come back and register under another name, email address, and IP number. With all of the tools available now that enable internet dishonesty, we may not immediately catch your attempt to deceive us but when we do, proactive steps will be taken to keep you away for good. Such underhanded actions give everyone even more reason to distrust you and certainly prove a lack of forthright character on your part.
Sometimes a situation arises where one person gets banned and another "appears" to be left alone. We do our best to treat everyone equally and you, the Member, have no idea what has happened in the past or what events may have led up to our banning of an individual. Accordingly, you also have no idea whether personal warnings have gone out to others who might also have been involved in the situation. If they have not proven to be consistent with trouble-making motives while the other person has, then it stands to reason that one would get a warning while the other would finally get banned.
Every forum seems to have similar ongoing challenges with certain individuals, but we do try and work with most abusers as much as we can before they get banned. Just because it might not make sense to you doesn't mean there isn't a good reason for it. We keep the warning system here private so as not to embarrass anyone, but this also means you could perceive a situation differently than how it really occurred. Remember that rumors abound and what you hear from someone else just might not be the real story.
Everything we do is for the benefit of this forum and we ask that you respect our actions instead of questioning them openly. If you don't like it here we can't force you to stay, but please be considerate of others while you are here and don't muddy the forum with personal criticisms. If you have questions about something that has occurred, please contact us privately and we will explain the best we can without violating the privacy of others. Posting angry and often unfounded remarks on the board is not the type of behavior any of us wants to see displayed on our forum - it's not representative of what we're all about here.
Morgellons and Lyme are serious diseases and we take the time we devote here seriously as well. It's nice to joke, have fun, and take our minds off the suffering we endure but at the end of the day, this is still a serious situation and we know that none of you would want to be responsible for being a roadblock to our wellness. We're all working toward a common goal here and our health is of the utmost importance. With your cooperation, we will eventually be able to achieve those goals.
**Please remember that if more than one Member of Lymebusters accesses the board from the same IP number and one of them gets banned, it stands to reason that nobody using that computer will be able to access their account. This is the nature of the internet in general and how the banning system is set up via IP numbers; it is not a reflection of, or punishment directed at, anyone else.
