While researching mitochondrial DNA I ran accross something that I think everyone should be aware of, I personally find it disgusting. Because of the relative simplicity of the mitochondrial genome, genetic manipulation has advanced considerably. The first humans with half the nuclear genome from one mother and the mitochondrial genome from a donor mother have been delivered and are reported healthy. This genetic manipulation has now been carried out on about thirty children in the United States. Technically, this amounts to a kind of germline genetic modification and has, therefore, caused great reservation among the international biomedical community. Many scientists and physicians argue that there are serious ethical issues that should be addressed before such a practice should be allowed.science.jrank.org/pages/4899/Organelles-Subcellular-Genetics.html

Thanks Steve,
Why did they want to do this? What does it change in the resulting child? I guess I don't have a clue what it is but I'd like to find out why you have a bad feeling about it.
The link doesn't go to the place you quoted from.

The link doesn't go to the place you quoted from. Why they would want to do it I suppose in their mind is the interest of science but I personally think it's crossing the line, virtually all life is created with the genes from a male and a female, like it was intended to be, who knows what might result if this basic rule of life is violated. The article that I took this quote from does not specifically address the issue but the implications should be obvious considering they are creating children using DNA from two women instead of a man and a woman
