I'm posting this for Sid.
Here's what Sidney says:
The culture kit was purchased at Lowe's. Manufactured by Pro- Lab and is a Mold Test Kit.
I took the petri dish to my bathroom, closed the door, made sure the ceiling gadget where hot or cold air comes out was closed. Actually, I didn't even have the heat on at the time as we've had mild weather other than a cold snap earlier.
I started the culture on October 23, 2009 in the evening.
The specimens had been on double slides and I scraped the slides into the petri dish. The fresh ones were hairs I plucked from above my upper lip and pickings, and razor blade skin scrapings I did on the spot. The lid went on the Petri Dish and the Petri dish was placed in a Zip Lock bag and placed in a kitchen cabinet which has glass fronts.
By Sunday I could see a tiny hint of color in what has become the darkest part, but by Monday even the facial hairs I had plucked and added on Friday were growing gray mold.
I taped the lid on the Petri Dish making sure it couldn't be opened without removing the tape, and took it for show and tell when I saw my physician yesterday.
My doctor was unable to identify any of the mold growing, but said he saw five different species of mold.
What you see growing isn't environmental contaminants. This mold grew from my face. Now you can tear this apart as much as you want, and this definitely is NOT the end of the story. I'll be seeing a specialist as soon as my physician can speak with the specialist so that this can be repeated in a medical setting by a medical doctor.
