Dear Ruth,Once again thank you for introducing us to quantum dots. If ingested is it possible stomach acid might possibly strip away their encapsulating coating? My microscope is set up again and need to find a black light source strong enough to energize the dots for photographing. Have you witnessed the sliding and flashing dot bananny said you would want to see. If not let us know and I will look up it's place in lymebusters. Later morghunter.

morghunter, yes, in a non-neutral ph.......acid or base either way, will degrade the outer coating to release the heavy metals.
you can use a cat toy laser (walmart $5)and a flashlight to light them up. they have limited ability to hold the charge so be ready to film.
you need to jump up at least one size of lens to capture them and turn the aperture underneath to the farest right it will go.

Hi Ruth, I was hopping to get pictures of dots glowing under black light only. I'm hoping they will flouresce. There are hundreds of them in all my artifacts. Looking through old specimens I found a fuzz ball but sitting on clear plastic under the microscope it was a gellatinous mess. It was wet looking with many many fibers and could have been deposited by a deceased fruit fly weeks ago. They are encapsulated under clear tape. Wish you could see them, they are frightening. How they came to be in an enclosed container is beyond me. I will try the laser. Thanks for the tip. Later morghunter.
