Hi,
I am new to having Lyme Disease. I was bit by a tick between May 25 – May 26, 2011 (2 months ago), had a bump with red rash around it but not the typical “bull’s eye” rash. Got sick with a fever June 13 – 15 (2 ½ weeks later), then just never felt better. Have stiff painful neck, exhaustion and on July 16 all my joint were swollen and painful for a few days and are still like this in the morning. I was confirmed positive for Lyme with ELISA test and then with Igm antibody test which read that I was infected between 2- 6 weeks prior. I started doxycycline 100 mg twice a day on July 18. I’ve been taking it now for over a week wondering if this is enough? I read on Dr. Borrascano’s (SP) hints for Lyme book that I should be taking double the dose for twice as long. Just curious if anyone has any advice since I am so new to this disease. I live in Southern California so no one, other than my doctor who was shocked, believes that I actually have this as everyone says it’s so rare in southern California. I really appreciate any advice. Should I find a Lyme specialist? Thank you.

No, your treatment is NOT long enough to fully eradicate the disease. Trust me...find yourself a lyme literate doctor who will properly treat you. I have been misdiagnosed for 7 years & my body is a mess. I was just diagnosed properly this month. I may never be cured since I've had it so long. Do yourself a favor...don't believe anything your docs tell you...they don't know a thing about lyme or how to properly treat it. There is an incredible lyme group in Reno Nevada (probably the closest one to you). Google it to find out their info (I'm not sure of the name). Hope this helps. Take care.
