Hey, Ant:
I was visiting someone the other day and saw a book in their house entitled, "Anthill," a Pulitzer Prize-winner. Have you ever read it? :-) (I plan to sometime this fall.)
How did you come by your Board name, anyway? :-)
Wouldn't it be interesting for anyone who wants to let us know how and/or why they chose their on-line LB name? Anyone?
Mine is solely because I love violets and like to pick them in the spring when they bloom and make tiny arrangements in old-fashioned little cut-glass salt and pepper shakers. For some reason, my family in general loves them, too. :-)
We have some interesting names here on the Board that it would be fun to hear about, so anyone who wants to share, please feel free. :-)

Hi Violet
Torpedo is what my hip surgeons and hospital staff named me. After being tied down in a crib with weights on my legs for 4 months at age 1, going through experimental hip surgery, and waring a body cast for 2 years. They thought they would have to teach me to walk again when done with me at age 3. I got up and ran when they took off the body cast and they dubbed me their little Torpedo. My Nana made it stick all my life. So I am Torpedo.

And, oh my goodness, you have really been through so much with your hips, haven't you. I always admire your upbeat personality and cheerfulness in spite of so much you have handled in your life.

My online name "itchin4answers" popped into my head, I didn't really give the name conscious thought. How or why I'm not sure... when my skin was itchy & all the yuk was coming out...I kept asking myself "what is that?"...& "what the hell is that!"...I would itch myself & at the same time want answers for what I was seeing!

Well Violet when I was trying to come up with a name that described how morgellons felt to me my mind went back when I was a kid walking to school and how I would be late for school because I would stop at the ant hills along the way and and play with the fire ants I use to lose all sense of time and watched them for hours Anyway I remembered how when I would stir up the ant pile how the ants would come swarming out in the hundreds to protect their home and thats how I felt like an ant hill with all the ants swarming out of me My morgellons also were biting me just like the fire ants did I'm just thankful the morgellons bites weren't as painful as the fire ant bites I don't think I would be here today just having the morgellons swarming out of me was bad enough to cause me to want to---- well you know? I Have always loved violets too when I first figured out that Doctors weren't going to help me I started an medicinal herb garden with seeds that I collected from the wild suffice to say most of the herbs in my garden are flowers When I was out in the foothills last spring hiking around looking for new herbs to put in my garden I ran across a wild version of violet that is lighter color purple and more delicate than the domestic version I was thinking that they would look mighty good in my flower/herb garden One of these days I'll get up there and get me some to put in my garden --probably next spring

Thank you Violet and Itchen I love the nick names here and the icons..They make me feel like I get to see a bit of you and know you a little better like meeting in person somewhat. Then to hear the reason for the nick name was really neat into that whole aspect. Thank you Violet for coming up with that. I like to imagine that each Icon is a look into what you are each like. I had always wondered about Anthill and gave me the giggles. My older sister and I use to dig up the big red ants and start an ant farm in a giant pickle jar. After a certain amount of time we always released our captors. We collected lizards, spiders and moths too. Praying Mantis also. We would only keep them for a couple days before letting them go. They were so wise and noble looking to me. In Light Lynn/TorpedoLynn

Hi Lynn, Yes, the nicknames & icons are very cool. I wasn't going to post this morning, but then I saw my number of posts was "666" - call me superstitious but I just don't like that number!! I was thinking lately I'd like to change my icon. I do love Kangaroos though! & yes I live in the land down under. Though not feeling too proud of AU these days, but we won't go into that now will we?!! Hey toni, I love your new Icon, very cool!!! Have a great day/night everyone!

(And yes, they really do give us a deeper sense of who people are, don't they, Lynn.) I can just picture you as a young kid, Ant, poking around in those anthills and getting mesmerized by watching them and then being late for school. Did you get detention for being late? :-) And yes, thank goodness the biting we get isn't like fire ants. The "bites" we get are surely bad enough, though, aren't they. And how fun to hear you are a fellow violet lover! That is so neat, Ant. My mother and dad used to take walks in the woods and look for those pale violets you mention. The ones they brought back were actually white. Yours sound still purple, but just real light, right? I think I've seen those around my neighborhood here, too. That is fascinating that you started a medicinal herb garden. How did you know what to plant? Have any of them proven helpful to you? And I'll bet it's a beautiful wild flower garden along with the herbs.

Hi Violet
Yes it is interesting on how much of the nick names from childhood events and such. Makes life so interesting. Funny growing up I hated being called Torpedo except for when my original hip surgeon would address me and my Nana and Nano. Other wise everyone else put me in a grumpy mood. lol. I tried to change it a few time in high school. After my second reconstruction of the hip in my early teens the church members dubbed my Limpy. Hated that even more.
Than after having kids I started to change my mind and started to like and except things. Than after reuniting with my one and only true love it made it so I could except almost everything. This past twenty years I have learned so much compared to what I learned growing up and being Torpedo turned out to be a very good thing.

Love your nick name and the back ground that goes with it. Makes me smile with a giggle those shoes appearing on the other side of the Ant Hill. Hope you did not catch it too bad.

That is so funny about your dad's oxford shoes showing up on the other side of the anthill! :-) So, it sounds like your fascination ran really deep with the ants if your dad knew right where to find you! And I have heard of those Scotch "blessings." I used to go out with someone whose Dad was straight from Scotland. Whew. Tough, tough, tough. And tough. Isn't it wonderful to have a special place to unwind and release the cares and stresses of the workday? That is so nice that you had your garden to soothe your soul. :-) Do I remember your saying that you oversee or are a landlord for some housing?
