Hello Jill,
I have taken dessicated thyroid for 20 years, treated by Osteopath on this basal temperature basis, and I too have posted about Broda Barnes in the past year when I found these boards, and listened to everyone's symptoms.
Until a person reads the book, they don't really understand the concept of the cells being deactivated due to the thyroid deficet affecting every cell in the body.
I also went off my 20 year regimen, temp fell to 97.4 ..was surviving, finally it fell to far below that! Now I am using synthroid at 200 mg started at 50 mg two weeks ago, and my temperature is only now within range ..and I am getting a lot more accomplished day to day.. unless you have a magic genie in a bottle.. getting some income and resources is vital to survival !!!
A very fast turn around in two weeks, and a huge benefit to my concentration.
I have also taken Diflucan as was recommended on the Diflucan for Lyme thread. Initially the herxing from Tetracycline was so bad I couldn't function. Over spring break, I took the Tetracycline and Guess WHAT? No herx, just a little tired.
So, this tells me my 1:64 titer of Lyme HAS BEEN treated by the Diflucan regimen. I have been doing the Diflucan without the anti biotics, for several months. 50 days.. then 2 weeks off, then 25 days and two weeks off as recommended by Dr. Schardt.
No doubt James Phelps will help in the long run, in the short run, a temp of 97.4 indicates you need one to two grains of thyroid, (if you have symptoms of hypothyroidism that are concurrent), and SURE that will not cure your bugs, but will help your cells operate efficiently until such day comes that the thyroid gland itself is not exhausted and becomes able to help regulate and participate in the endocrine system efficiently.
If you are in touch with Dr. Phelps, why not ask his opinion.. in my opinion, and not raining on your parade if you get my meaning.. but it will be a long time before vitamins minerals herbals etc. can do what thyroid med can do for you in just days.
It can only compound your misery and progress toward health to go untreated for the hypothyroidism. There are many people taking many vitamins and minerals and herbals etc. and little progress is made. Very sad outcomes. Few are getting recovery.
Look at what Becky Bailey has done with: antibiotics prescribed by Ginger Savely, NP; herbals, vitamins, minerals, cleaning, burning her old stuff, moving, all kinds of oils, topicals, soaks, etc. for several years and yet she it still infected with what are said to be common parasites by her doctor.
Do I think thyroid will cure her NO, but if she or anyone else is hypothyroid it would be a grave mistake not to treat it, and rely on a future protocol yet to be constructed to someday save us all.
I'm not trying to be offensive to you or Dr. Phelps, what you have posted is very appreciated and vitally important!!!!
Looking out for sooner recovery, basic survival and well-being here,
