i finally read the morgellons article in popular mechanics this month...Im sorry but I think it was crappy..I learned nothing new and it was written in a very unsceintific way..and it gave the spotlight to this dop doctor, and split the rest. I didnt even buy the magazine. not that I have a problem with the other opions (dop) but where is the details of swartz finding I heard so long ago on coast to coast...they only gave him like 1 line. not a sceintific article at all..

Jeff,
I have read your opinion on this article here and elsewhere. I understand why you and others feel the way they do about what they think is an over emphasis of the "DOP" issue.
The ever existant DOP misdiagnosis is one of our major roadblocks. There is no way to overcome or disprove this misdiagnosis if it is not discussed and brought to peoples attention in articles like this.
I think the dop docs interviewed are in the "spotlight" but by no means is this a positive for them and their careers. Ginger's and Stricker's statements totally outweigh their's and make them and their current protocol questionable. Lynch and others like him need to be exposed. If anything, negative exposure is what they are afraid of. When we do disprove them and their misdiagnosis they can be liable for their lack of treatment. I truely feel someone is out there shaking in their boots.

Do hang onto that hope, but I've never been able to sue any doctors over any misdiagnosises in my home state. I've had quite a few major, life altering, ones too.

"crappy" it was, says the young one.
"learned nothing" did you.? Balance - now your lesson is.
"details of Schwartz finding" you found not.? Too insignificant, perhaps these "details" were.
hmmmm.....
"only gave him like one line" did they.? Fair this is, only one patient cultured he.
"not a scientific article at all" you say.? True this is for Popular Mechanics as well as Darth Schwartz.

Jeff, Did you not read JJ's post on this thread directed to you or does that one person not count. The article looked at both sides. In my opinion it left the DOP drs looking like closed minded medicine men stuck in historical theory. The article was published in a magazine which is read by 10's of thousands of people world wide that is on news stands and magazine counters every where, not in some bug collector's techincal journal read by only a few butterfly mounters and found only in a few libraries and is not available to the public for retail sales. The article got the word out about the fact that we exist and the condition exists. It was not intended to provide information to the reading population that already knew basic information about Morgellons so I am surprized you didn't learn something from it. Lesser negativity is better John

Jeff,
JohnLIB is on the money with the fact that this may open many people's eyes to the ravages of this condition. About a year ago, Cindy and I learned about Morgellons and registered with the Foundation. At that time there were less than 700 people registered. That number is now well over 2,000 and growing daily. Most of that is due to local TV news coverage, newspaper pieces and a few radio broadcasts. Who knows what the results could be from a magazine article in a worldwide publication...?
I think sometimes we (in the realm of the Morgellon) tend to be a little too microscopic, even in our view of the world around us. Let's face it, if you don't have Morgellons (or are living with it) then most likely, you've never heard of it.
I believe it was P.T. Barnum who once said: "Any publicity, is good publicity."
But it was JJ who said: "Still hangin"...!

Any article, in any magazine, any TV news spot, etc. is only going to help the cause. It cannot sound very scientfic because there is no science yet on this condition. No one knows what we are dealing with.
I am very proud of Ginger's efforts!

ok lets leave it at this...I see your point and chazman makes a good point..any publicity would be good. but the last thing i heard before this was the coast to coast spot with swartz...and this was just disappointing to me cuase that spot was d-day for me..I was expecting more elaboration on current studies and current finding from swartz and his dealings with the cdc and other doctors all of which are happening.

Hi Guys, I can't find the registration for some reason. I haven't been here lately because my father-in-law fell downhill into mower blades and had to have his foot amputated. He is doing very well though.
I picked up a Popular Mechanics mag and read the article. Like I said before I am proud of everything Ginger does to help us. I hope everyone knows she is committing career suicide by helping us.
This is what I sent to popularmechanics@hearst.com . I encourage everyone to send him your story, the more the better!Mr. Chertoff: How can you call yourself a researcher? How many Morgellons sufferers did you interview? How many homes did you visit? Lynch said "These scientists can recognize things down to the prion level, and viruses that do everything to evade detection", but how can they do that if no one does it! No one is investigating. The CDC has turned their backs to us. How many homes have they investigated? Just one home would do the job. There is evidence of something, though it is extremely elusive. It likes sores, scars and hair but will live anywhere on a persons body. It waits for them in their bed. The itching and crawling intensifies at night. Sleep is impossible. I'm sure people are scratching and making matters worse, but the creatures do cause tiny ulcers which are difficult to heal. Cutting off oxygen seems to kill them, for example putting castor oil on the ulcers and rashes. There is evidence in our beds, in our hair, in our cars and homes. But no one will investigate. The sufferers certainly don't know how to do the CDC's job! It is absolutely criminal how we have been left to self-medicate in desperation. Many people have committed suicide. I certainly understand because it went through my mind that I would have to end my life to stop the torture. I was saved from that fate by our Father. I am strengthened for the battle ahead. I am managing this disease as best I can, but most people have had to quit their jobs. We suffer from brain fog, poor memory, anorexia, exhaustion, cough, etc. These are all physical symptoms that the person is VERY ill. Any doctor can see that, but still they send us to shrinks. Mention "parasites" to an American doctor and you will find yourself on a shrink's couch eating pills like candy. It just smacks of conspiracy to me. American doctors know parasites are making us ill, and making them rich. I am so ashamed of you for putting in large print "But are they jumping to conclusions?". No, we have a disease or scourge on our bodies and desperately need help. We would love for someone to investigate and TELL US what this is. We have no conclusion to jump to, we do not know what this is. Calling it Morgellons gets us nowhere closer to an answer, because no one knows what Morgellons is, except it fits the symptoms. All the studying we all do has mostly been in vain. Especially when you cannot get any of the powers-to-be to run any kind of test, and cannot get a referral to a specialist. Certainly there are specialist, if not in our country then in other countries. But we are told we will have to find them ourselves. I don't know how to do that. Wouldn't a doctor have channels of communication with other doctors? Certainly. They give referrals all the time, just not to us. I have been studying human filarial disease. It fits. I would love to mail you a copy of the reserach for your review. One in particular, called Onchocerca volvulus, causes intense itching and nodules, is thread-like in appearance, and has been reported in America. If the disease becomes occular blindness can result. Many Morgellons sufferes report their eyesight is getting bad, and many of those with the disease for many years are blind. It differs from the African form in that nodules are much smaller and occur mostly around and on the head, but also on the body. Diagnosis is made by finding the adult worms in the noducles and the microfilarie in the skin and nodules. Examination of the skin in the vicinity of the nodules or cutaneous lesions for microfilarie is the most practical method. This disease is carried by biting insects like the midge. They contract the disease by biting an infected animal, and spread it by biting other animals and humans. I contracted this disease after a 5-night cruise ship vacation to Cozumel, Mexico. Still no doctor will believe my symptoms could be parasite related. How narrow-minded is that? When I began experiencing the intense itching and not sleeping, the mental stress was overwhelming. I was a basket case. Can you imagine having your life turned upside down almost overnight by a mysterious disease? And to make matters worse not one of six doctors that I went to in desperation did any kind of tests. I asked for testing, I asked for referrals, but no one would do a thing for me. You interviewed medical doctors AFTER interviewing Ginger Savely and Dr. Striker. They, being the educated, intelligent, arrogent people that they are convinced you that we are delusional. We do not have the other symptoms that a true delusional person has, like MENTAL ILLNESS or DRUG ADDICTION! We are at the end of our ropes simply because of the desperation of our situation. You did not mention in your article that Ginger is also a Lyme Disease Specialist, who is finding some 10% of her Lyme patients have Morgellons symptoms. She realizes our desperate situation and is trying to help us get real help from the CDC, who so far has denied us an investigation. They say they are sitting back waiting for doctors to send them samples, but the truth is they disregard anything sent even by doctors. The CDC should be in our homes with their spacesuits on collecting evidence. These thing are as tiny and invisible as dust mites. Have you ever seen a dust mite with your eyes? No, that is impossible. The CDC has the right equipment to find the evidence, and send it to experts for diagnosis. Why would they deny us that American right? ? It is easy to see why victims of this disease are outraged. We live in America, with the best health care anywhere, but we are left to our own devices. How can that happen in our country, in this day and age! We are all concerned about spreading this disease to others. How do you go about your normal life with this scourge all over your body? I have mostly stayed out of people's homes and cars, and don't allow anyone in mine. I have loosened up on this as my condition has improved through Lyme Disease treatment, salt baths, hot tub soaks, infra-red sauna treatments, and castor oil on my skin. It would be awesome if you would investigate this more thoroughly and blow the cover off this mystery. You would help several thousand people. If you are interested please return my email at beckybailey2892@hotmail.com and let me know where to mail material to you. I certainly feel you owe it to us to investigate futher, because your article truly hurt our cause. PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! thank you for your time, Becky Bailey Llano, Texas beckybailey2892@hotmail.com

You know what I left off the letter, and am going to send to him in a note is the fact that there are MANY documented diseases and parasites that cause intense itching but even those are not investigated or acknowledged by our doctors.

OK, this is the note I just sent:
Mr. Chertoff:
I re-read my lette and realized I forgot to say that in my ten months of infection with this scourge I have done research online, at the library, purchased books, etc. I can show you there are many documented diseases and parasites that cause intense itching. EVEN THOSE ARE NOT ACKNKOWLEDGED OR INVESTIGATED! The only diagnosis we are receiving, besides Delusions of Parasitosis, is dermatitis and scabies, as if there are only two things it could possibly be.
This only further convinces me of conspiracy by American doctors to keep us all sick. Americans have lots of intestinal parasites because our high sugar diet sets us up for them. Many Americans are overweight and have intestinal troubles that never go away. These are signs of intestinal parasites. There are many herbal preparations that will kill or tremendously reduce their population. But we Americans know very little about such a taboo subject!
thank you, Becky Bailey Llano, Texas beckybailey2892@hotmail.com

Hello,
Don't be surprized if Popular Mechanics takes the government's side on things. You may have seen what very much appears to be a coverup of government involvement in the 911 incidents at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Kathlene Black, who is the President of the Board, is married to the former Special Assistant to the Director of the CIA.
bb, I'm sorry to hear about your father-in-law's accident. I hope and pray he will recover soon. That was a terrible mishap.
Respectfully Yours, Bugs Alive
