yes i say chap very good idea lol. for those who havent seen my post for software that can help with some of the many problems that hit us each day fromour use of the internet look at the post called software for computer problems. there are links to many programs that are free to try and please if you can afford to buy the ones you like and use alot please do. i know that it takes time and money to make software also you might find the same software at the local store for much cheeper then buying online. a word of caution tho my son just bought a new invidea video car that came with a disk called gamers toolkit by bfg tech that contains free software and the ones it has is spysweeper system mecanic5 windows washer and desktop firewall. well since i like and use spysweeper and have tried older versions of system mecanic i thought id give the software a try well low and behold system mecanic installed a key logger. for those who dont know what a key logger is it is software to record every keystrock typed on your keyboard and it is used by morons to steal info and passwords form you. needless to say i recomend being very carefull about even software you get that comes with things you buy. also after installing spysweeper from there disk onto my wifes computer it installed a very bad worm that i couldent track down. it basicly messed up everything on her comp and it would require a reinstall of every program on her comp so i formated her hd and mine. i ran tds3 on her comp and it picked up 23 trojans from the install of spysweeper from that disk. now dont get me wrong spysweeper is a very good program and so is system mchanic but not from that disk. be sure to get your software from the maker of the program and not from a second party be sure to always run your antivirus and antitrojan software offten and on any new program downloaded befor you install it and then again after you install it and after it downloads any updates to its self be sure to not allow any programs to update them selves without your say so. many programs are set at default to update atimaticly so be sure to turn that part off and dont give any programs free access to the internet through your firewall except your browser and any programs you must have able to go online. other then that make everything ask you befor it can go online and when its done doing what you wanted it to do then denie it access once again. your never going to be compleatly bug free but you can keep the bugs away for a long time by being carefull about what you do and where you go online and offline. happy serfing dave

Hi, yes a great idea and I will be your most popular question-er.
My son tells me that the formatting may be the problem here. I suddenly started to have a size\ing problem where the posts are way larger than the screen, but only some of the time, and that means to read the whole sentence I have to scroll left and right. In fact, I can only see about half of the width of the screen when it is doing this, so that is a lot of pain in the neck scrolling. Other times, I can see the entire post on the screen.
Please help me out if you can.
Thanks, spec

Hi spec --not your computer--- that happens when someone post an extra long link on the forum it throws that whole thread off so ya not to worry
The only way to rectify it is to cut the link down to the bare min. which is a pain to figure out what part of the link is needed and which part is not and it's not my job description to mess with it but I do some times when it really annoys me or you could take the link out completely but I think that would be counter productive and pee the person off who posted it

Also..........sometimes that happens when someone writes their message from a mail program first with the screen enlarged. Then when they copy it to paste onto the board, they forget to shrink back down the message box first. Then, as Ant said, each post that follows in that thread will also follow that style. I'm sure the people don't do it on purpose.....they probably aren't even aware that it's happening....but it irritates me too, Spec! ;D

Hi All, I use Norton Corporate Edition Anti-virus software and a free firewall from www.sygate.com ....I downloaded the free Sygate Personal Firewall, i think it's called spf.exe, download it, and run the program, then you can see everything that tries to access the internet from the main screen. Ohhh, and make sure to keep an eye on the "Hide Braodcast Traffic" and "Hide Windows Services" boxes....the broadcast traffic box tends to be checked at times when you first start up the computer. I check everything before going on-line, and during as well. Symantec, the makers of 'Norton Anti-virus', releases virus updates Every Wednesday - so be sure to get the updates, AND, make sure you operating system (i.e. - Windows 98, Windows 2000, ect.) is completely up-to-date as in patches and all....Good Luck.... Something else I forgot to add. Alot of regular users have their messeging services turned on, 95% of the time, you Don't even need this unless you use a messenger service like yahoo messenger or aol instant messenger. Now, if you have any Operating System above Windows 98, you normally can goto the heart of the operating system and turn this feature off (prevents viruses from getting in, hackers too - doesn't mean a virus can't get in at all, but Really makes a difference - even with pop-ups too) from the Services part of say like Windows 2000 and above, like Windows XP. Now, in order to do it, you have to go either through the MMC (Microsoft Management Console) - which you can goto Start --> Run --> then type MMC (this is too hard for most users because ya gotta know where yer going), or through - Start (click Start button)--> Goto 'Programs' --> then to 'Administrative Tools' --> then goto 'Services'. Now look in the list within the window that opens - You'll see in the list something that says Messenger, highlight it (click one time on it to highlight), then Right-click On It (use the right button on the mouse), then go down to 'Properties' and click on 'Properties' and then another box will open, Look for "Startup Type" - in That box, select 'Disable' (when the box drops down with choices) and then click the 'OK' button on the bottom of the giant box(click OK at the bottom of the screen), then simply close the thing all together, as the choice you made will be saved to the computer until you change it - and to change it again, follow the same steps and just pick a different choice in the 'Startup Type' box. Now normally with a Windows 200 (or above) computer, there's no need to reboot, but I do one time Just to be sure.
WARNING: Unless you can follow these instructions TO THE LETTER, I would advise having someone who has computer knowledge do this For You, but if you do this yourself, DO NOT touch Anything else!!!! Just make that one correction, or you could render your computer useless.
Here ya go - an answer that will help, but, please follow the directions, and Don't touch anything else, ok.

I just checked the email address that you have for me and it is incorrect. How do I go about changing it and I suppose that probably answers my second question as to why I wasn't getting notices and updates. Please HELP! This place is my sanity and having contact with certain members has brought me much healing. Thanks and bless all of you that work on this board! Karen Marsh (Okie) ........ correct email is dblcreek@tah-usa.net

PS. Also, I was wondering why I was kicked down from a junior member to a new member? Did I offend someone or was it the email screwup? Thanks again! Karen in Okie.

Karen, I found what the problem was......evidentally you had registered twice at some point. The incorrect email had your name as you spell it now (with a capital "R") and the correct one had it without a capital "R", just the opposite. I am deleting both of them so you can re-register and be on the records correctly. I'm sorry to put you to this trouble but it's the only way. This system is automated and we have no control over it, other than deleting the mistakes and starting over. This is also the reason your status changed.....it was reading the most recent registration info which happened to be the wrong one. Thanks for understanding.......computers are like men....hard to understand but well-worth the trouble! Let us know if you have any other problems.

Jody, Rundll is a process found on older versions of Windows so don't delete it unless you know for sure what is happening. It could also represent a Trojan or Virus if you are are running XP. I would make sure all your programs are up-to-date and do a thorough scan. There are places like Majorgeek.com where you can post the results of your scan and others will help you with instructions to repair (or go to the Support section of your program's homepage). Do you have anyone around you who could help you with this? It most likely is why your computer is slow and keeps getting hung up. When this happens, rebooting might help but it won't fix any problems you might have. Good luck.......sometimes it seems like keeping our computers running smoothly is almost a full-time job, and a very frustrating one at that.

Hi Jody rundll errors are a tuffy if you don't know what you are doing Your computer wont run vary well until you get it fixed
here is a few ways to fix it
1. your computer should of come with a product recovery disk it has three main modes one is diagnostic that runs a scan on your computer but you almost have to know what your sacanning for It gives you a list of stuff that is wrong but unless you know what your doing to reinstate the missing files well put it this way it is a headache
Another is fix mode you have to what file your fixing to use it another headache
Last much easier is the reformat mode The only drawback to it is you have to back up the important stuff like programs that yor computer didn't come with your computer pictures so no and so forth that you want to save to a disk You need to be able to know how to get reconnected to the Internet
What reformat mode does it erases every thing on your hard drive and reinstalls windows Your computer will run like new afterwords The only problem getting reconfigured If you choose to reformat make sure that you save your Internet providers dialer number and password because it wont be on your computer after you reformat ---still a bit complicated
2.the the easiest way to fix it is to download a program that will fix your rundll error automatically with not much input from you the only thing is they cost
I am a freeware junkie and a while back when I was having problems with my dll I looked for freeware to fix it I could not find any so I opted for the reformat
Tell you what there is new freeware coming out all the time I will look for a free program for you to fix your dlll Otey?

Here is a little info on that
The KERNEL32.DLL file is a 32-bit dynamic link library file that is found in Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Millenium Edition (ME). The KERNEL32.DLL file handles memory management, input/output operations, and interrupts. When you start Windows, KERNEL32.DLL is loaded into a protected memory space so that other programs do not take over that memory space.
On occasion, you may receive an invalid page fault (IPF) error message. This error message occurs when a program tries to access the KERNEL32.DLL protected memory space. Occasionally, the error message is caused by one particular program, and other times the error message is provoked by multiple files and programs.
If the problem results from running one program, the program needs to be replaced. If the problem occurs when you access multiple files and programs, the damage is likely caused by damaged hardware.
You may want to clean boot the computer to help you identify the particular third-party memory-resident software. Note that programs that are not memory-resident can also cause IPF error messages.
The following conditions can cause KERNEL32.DLL error messages:
* Damaged swap file * File allocation damage * Damaged password list * Damaged or incorrect version of the KERNEL32.DLL file * Damaged registry * Hardware, hot CPU, over clocking, broken power supply, RF noise, ground bounce, or bad hard disk controller * BIOS settings for Wait states, RAM timing, or other BIOS settings * Third-party software that is damaged or incorrectly installed * .DLL files that are saved to the desktop * Non-existent or broken Temp folder * A control panel (.CPL) file is damaged * Incorrect or damaged hardware driver * Incorrectly installed printer drivers or HP Jetadmin drivers * Damaged Java Machine * Damaged .LOG files * Damaged entries in the History folder * Incompatible or damaged dynamic link library files * Viruses * Damaged or incorrect MSINFO32.EXE file * Low disk space * Other problems that depend on the Kernel file
GENERIC KERNEL32.DLL ERROR CHECKLIST by Richard G. Harper
In most cases, I still think the fastest diagnostic route for KERNEL32.DLL errors is to follow this checklist by MS-MVP Richard G. Harper:
1. BAD MEMORY MODULES. Try inserting the command DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS /TESTMEM:ON into your CONFIG.SYS file with the System Editing utility and watch your computer for a message “HIMEM has detected unreliable memory at address xxxxxxxxx” which will certainly indicate that there is a memory problem. It may take several reboots over a period of days for this to show up. You can also download diagnostic software from AMI, or DocMemory from SIMMTester.com, to test your system’s memory.
2. BAD VIDEO DRIVERS. Check with your video card manufacturer for an updated set of drivers. If they don’t have an update, check one of the driver sites here.
3. CPU, BUS SPEED OR MULTIPLIER OVER CLOCKING. DON’T!
4. FAULTY OR DIRTY COOLING FANS ON YOUR CPU OR POWER SUPPLY. The CPU fan can be cleaned with a small paintbrush and some compressed air. The power supply fan should be cleaned only by someone who is comfortable working around high voltage capacitor components. (If you are not sure if this is you — then trust me — it isn’t you.)
5. GRAPHIC ACCELERATION IS SET TOO HIGH. Right-click My Computer, select Properties, then the Performance tab, then the Graphics button. Turn down graphics acceleration a notch, reboot, try again. Repeat as necessary.
6. ANIMATED MOUSE CURSORS, MOUSE TRAILS, AND ACTIVE DESKTOP can also rarely cause these kinds of problems. Try disabling them all and re-adding one at a time until you find the culprit.
ANOTHER SOLUTION
The following has solved many people’s Windows Explorer KERNEL32.DLL crashes. It is from early Windows 95 days, and seems to work primarily on Win95, though I have had a couple of Win98 users say that it helped them, too.
In the root directory of C:\, modify or create a CONFIG.SYS file to include the following lines:
FILES=65 BUFFERS=40 STACKS=64,512
If the error persists, try adding this line to your SYSTEM.INI file in the [386Enh] section:
; Increases default stack pages from 2 to 6 MinSPs=6
(The default is 2. If required, increase by increments of 2 until you find a value that solves the problem. The ; [semicolon] works the same as REM works in AutoExec.bat.)
Click Edit, Save, Edit, exit. Shut down and restart for the changes to take effect.
Additionally, repeat KERNEL32.DLL errors can often be resolved by deleting your Windows swap file, WIN386.SWP, and letting it rebuild itself.
