Bob Dylan - Positively 4th Street Lyrics You got a lotta nerve To say you are my friend When I was down You just stood there grinnin' You got a lotta nerve To say you gotta helpin' hand to lend You just want to be on The side that's winnin' You say I let you down You know it's not like that If you're so hurt Why then don't you show it You say you lost your faith But that's not where it's at You had no faith to lose And you know it I know the reason That you talk behind my back I used to be among the crowd You're in with Do you take me for such a fool To think I'd make contact With the one who tries to hide What he don't know to begin with You see me on the street You always act surprised You say, "How are you?", "Good luck" But you don't mean it When you know as well as me You'd rather see me paralyzed Why don't you just come out once And scream it No, I do not feel that good When I see the heartbreaks you embrace If I was a master thief Perhaps I'd rob them And now I know you're dissatisfied With your position and your place Don't you understand It's not my problem I wish that for just one time You could stand inside my shoes And just for that one moment I could be you Yes, I wish that for just one time You could stand inside my shoes You'd know what a drag it is To see you! (Just listening to this song, and it sorta reminds me of a few close unwanted "family" members, that I keep my distance from. That's all.)

I've always liked this song too, Adapted....thanks for sharing. It brings back memories (some good, some bad) but memories just the same! I remember how controversial this was when it came out (sorta like "You're So Vain by Carly Simon, and was she writing about Mick Jagger?). Some say it went back to his days on 4th St. at the U. of Minnesota, while others say it was aimed at his time spent in The Village in NY on W. 4th. I don't have a clue, I just like it...especially since it's one where you can understand his words!

Patti, I know Mick sings backing vocals on that song. I think I read somewhere the song was about Warren Beatty.

I thought your were all wrong I though it was carly singing about James Talor but I guess Im wrong
Simon has never said who this is about. Some of the rumors are Warren Beatty, Kris Kristofferson, Cat Stevens, and Mick Jagger, all of whom she had affairs with. Simon started recording this with Harry Nilsson singing backup, but Mick Jagger ended up singing on it instead, although he was not credited on the album. When asked how she was able to get him, Simon said: "I guess it was kind of chance in a way. I was in London, it was 1972 and he happened to call at the studio while I was doing the background vocals with Harry Nilsson. Mick said 'Hey, what cha doin'?' and I said 'We're doing some backup vocals on a song of mine... why don't you come down and sing with us?' So Mick and Harry and I stood around the mic singing 'You're So Vain' and Harry was such a gentleman - he knew the chemistry was between me and Mick; in terms of the singing, so he sort of bowed out saying, 'The two of you have a real blend - you should do it yourselves.' (thanks, Kain - Charleston, SC) Simon married James Taylor a month before this was released. She has said that it is definitely not about him.

I asked a trivia question once about Carly Simons your so vain. And according to the answer I went with, the song was about Warren Beatty... Now I have some Die hard Trivia buffs who are quick to point out when I get something wrong & no one ever came back to tell me it was not about Warren Beatty... When I am wrong they get a free beer....

My uncle is an artist, unlike me, he is a professional, I just love to sketch, carve wood, stained glass, etc. But Uncle Louis does much of the same likes as Klee. Those were great to see...thanks Skytroll!

Help Somebody...performed by Van Zant
Written by Kip Raines and Jeffrey Steele
Well, Grandaddy was a hillbilly scholar, blue collar of a man. He came from the school where you didn't need nothin', If you couldn't make it with your own two hands. He was backwoods, backwards, used words like: "No Sir," "Yes, Ma'am," "By God," "Be darned," "Hell yeah, I'm American." And all the years he walked this earth, I swear all he did was work. He said: "The devil dreams on an idle horse, "So you listen to me squirt.
"Don't get too high on a bottle, "And get right with the Man. "Fight your fights, find a grace, "And all the things that you can change, "And help somebody if you can."
Now Granny said: "Sonny, stick to your guns, If you believe in something, no matter what, Cause it's better to be hated for who you are, Than be loved for who you're not." She was five feet of concrete New York born an' raised on a slick city street. She'd cold-stare you down, stand her ground, Still kickin' and screamin' at 93. I remember just how frail she looked in that hospital bed: Takin' her last few breaths of life, smilin' as she said:
"Don't get too high on a bottle, "Just a little sip ev'ry now and then. "Fight your fights, find a grace, "And all the things that you can change, "And help somebody if you can. "And get right with the Man.
"I never let a cowboy make the coffee." Yeah, thats what Granny always said to my Grandad. And he'd say: "Never tell a joke that ain't that funny more than once." "And if you wanna hear God laugh, tell Him your plans.
"Don't get too high on a bottle, "Get right with the Man, son. "Fight your fights, find a grace, "And all the things that you can change, "And help somebody if you can. "And get right with the Man."
Yeah. (Get too high.) (Help somebody if you can.) And get right with the Man.

Since we've got a music theme going, is there anybody out there who is also a fan of
Robbie Robertson Lone Justice/Maria McKee New Radicals or R.L. Burnside?
I had their cd's in the player tonight and thought... I've never known anyone (but myself) who listens to these guys.
