I'm a star gazin', planet watchin', meteor shower lovin' fool, and hope that the rest of you can enjoy seeing this. I put a tent up in my back yard last summer to watch these and we had heavy cloud coverage the entire two weeks. Total bummer. I nearly froze watching the Leonid meteor showers in November several years ago, but I have never witnessed anything as spectacular as that show was. These can't compare, but they're cool anyway. hi adapted,
the first time i saw the persiades was in the early 80's. i took my kids camping at "the blues fields"(ellensburg blue gemstone).
they were already asleep by the time i got there. i left them sleeping in the car and threw my sleeping bag on the ground.
when i looked up, there were 100's of shooting stars with tails that touch the horizon and nonstop shooting stars displays. the next night we waited to see if the same sky would appear. it did not disappoint. it was spectacular. i have never seen it like that again.
i found out later that i was right down the road from where yearly, astronomers from all over come to the top of this mountain to visualize the persaides. i joined them one year (briefly). i got to use their scopes, but they are not needed.
i was happy to hear you talk about them. what a spectacular sight!

Far-out, Ruth. The things you've mentioned sound like my idea of a good time.

Hey adapted there are going to be 2 eclipses this month, a solar and lunar. Only the lunar will be visible from North America (mostly western). There will probably be great pics on the net of the solar eclipse.
