Yes, that rainbow color is normal for stainless - that's just from heat from the stove.
OHHH this is on your bowl. I've got all stainless bowls too for mixing, but you know, unless you've ever used them to "cook" with, or put them in the oven...I've never seen rainbow colors in the bowls...unless I stuck them in the oven for something, cause the heat will do that, or even the dishwasher on high heat for drying.
Now the spots on stainless? That part is odd. You know take a brillo pad and really scrub it to death, and with Comet cleanser too, and it should come out all nice and new looking. I know if "stainless" is mixed with aluminum it can do that too. Good stainless won't do that. I "personally"...just think it's the product.
PS just went and looked real good at my bowls, I've had them since I was 18 and my favorite skillet (was my mothers) when she first got married. Which was almost 60 years ago. It's copper clad on the bottom and stainless steel. They still look brand new, except for some fine scratches in it...which is just from stirring utensils, etc.

Just to say....... I got a spoon out of my utensil tray in my drawer one day, I looked at it and couldn't believe what I saw. But when I did believe it, I threw it out the door in a rage. There was a wierd looking fiber coming out from the edge of the spoon. Yep, it even penetrates silver, metal, you name it. Like I said on another thread, we're dealing with nano particles and they can slip right thru the molecules that make up these kinds of things.
