A woman came thru the ER last night. She has COPD, is on Oxygen and was admitted.
When she arrived on the unit, I saw those horrible white scars on her upper back.
So I looked closer and saw other "small lesions".
On the admissions assessment, I documented on the "skin integrity" section............ patient has numerous white scars on upper back and arms. Patient also complains of itching and has "insect looking" bites on much of her body.
I am going to get this documented in the records so that it will be there.
I asked her what these were............ her answer "probably flea bites".
NO................they were those BIG WHITE scars on the back and white ones on her arms. This woman born in 1955 clearly has morgellons.
Yes she did and I will do skin assessments on every patient I have with visible morgellons.
Then it will be recorded in people's medical records and when the time comes, the extent how prevalent this is will be there to see cuz I will continue to document all morgellon skin without calling it morgellons. I will document itching too.
I was amazed.............the ER doctor orded an O & P.
Imagine that.
I couldn't get one ordered until I went to a vet and proved to my doc that I had hookworm.
An O & P, is a stool lab test that looks for eggs and parasites!

I have a feeling it's because they aren't "true" ova and parasites.
They are a "borg"...only half biological so normal lab tests won't reveal it's presence.
kmarie, I have seen those horrible white scars on so many of my patients...it's unreal.
I have a man from Vietnam...his natural skin color is darker and his marks are lighter shades of his skin tone.
not white, but much lighter than his original tone.
diagnosis: unexplained uticaria
unreal. gg

Kmarie,
I'm soooo happy you're documenting these people who come into the hospital. Thank you, cause that sure does matter.
And I was going to make a joke about Morgellons in saying ((( I got Morgellons in the hospital the other day)) cause my BACK, is all broken out in Morgellons lesions bites right now.
Haven't had those lesions/suckers in so long I almost forgot what they were like.
Yesterday after my last shower (I take a few thoughout the day) I slapped on yogurt and milk (the mix) and today....they're all scabbed up and healing....and the best part is no itching at all.
I don't know if it was "something in there"...that caused this new break out...or if it was cause I was off my supplements for a few days. But my back is loaded...but now scabbed up, which is a good sign they're on their way out.
Thanks!
I moved the pics to the Dicty thread.

They ordered an O & P !!!! Ha ha hahaahahahaha..... I'm laughing because O & P's are a joke. If it wasn't so serious, it would just be plain funny. Our doc ordered an O & P for KJ. Of course it came back "negative". We went berzerk and pleaded with the doc for a second O & P. He gave us a 2nd script. This time we took phorid fly parts, mosquito wings, roach legs, and a few springtails, crammed them into the stool sample, and returned the container back to the lab (Quest Diagnostics). Of course, it came back again "negative". We were fuming and asked the lab how in God's creation could this come back "negative" after we had crammed it full of bug pieces. They got all upset with us saying we'd done something unethical... but they never had the guts to explain how it was that their lab techs had missed all those bug parts. That's why I don't believe that O & P's are a reliable test. It's all in the hands of the lab tech.... and I don't know about how it is at your hospital, but here in Miami? Forget it. You'd have to slip a twenty-dollar bill under the table for the lab guy to really look at the sample. Hey! Just occurred to me... that ain't a bad idea! Grrrrrrr But I'm glad you're documenting the lesions. That was way smart of you!

Bless you, Kmarie. Documenting this scourge is the best way to make the docs realize that this is not a figment of a disordered mind. Hi to you Toni, please put some Vick's on that nasty lip sore and get rid of it even quicker. I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that the COPD is the end stage of Morgs for this lady. A nurse freind of mine has had the sores itching and major lung troubles , being treated with steroids and now her skin is just going crazy. She is much younger than her siblings and it looks as though she may go before any of them do. As most of us know, the skin is not the only place this attacks.

way to go Kmarie. Anyway you can keep a private tally of the number of cases you see and maybe a code if you need to go back to a specific case later?

Hi Kmarie, You are great - doing what you can . What is actually tragic is the the O and P will likely show nothing - and then the doctors will go on to say that parasites do not exist in the US. Clinical microbiology is just awful - even with the right stains, they would not be able to identify most. There are so many uncategorized parasites - how do they expect to id it ? Also, without a darkfield microscope (which are now ILLEGAL for clinicians to use) been properly trained and really are guessing at what they see. The trainings are extensive and most have not done it. IF anyone has been trained by Maria Blecker - they are more likely to know what they are doing.
