One of my dr said I have hyper squamaplasia and another said lichen sclerosus. I was to have biopsy but for the first time in my life I quit. I cancelled appt. I had every intention of going. No denying that since they shaved my entire scalp yesterday. I guess I need an attitude adjustment. Everything I saw about squama plasia is about basal cell, etc but he specifically said hyper squama plasia. He said it can do really crazy things if let go. His exact words. But I dont know why I cant find anything except the basal cell stuff.

kiki,
That Lichen I have heard other diagnosed with it. When I worked in the OB/GYN office also many middle age to elderly women were getting it in their private area. It was never explained much to me, cuz mostly I just called the special "recipe" of ingredients that the MD's wanted the the pharmacist to mix up for a special prepration cream/treatment for the patient. They didn't seem to think the Lichen was much to worry about and treated it more like an inconvenience. At the time, I was healthy and took it at the MD's word. I am still not real sure on the Lichen and would need to look it up again.
I am sorry to hear that you decided not to go on the appointment. Did you cancel and reschedule it? I have cancelled things in the past before.
If possible, try to reschedule and go on in. From what you write, it seems like the Doctor is NOT sure what it is. His comment about "it can do crazy stuff" ................gosh some Doctors don't realize the stress a patient is under and don't THINK about what they say.
BUt it appears he really CAN'T make a TRUE diagnosis until there is a biopsy and perhaps his guess about basal cell is wrong.
I know it can be very scary not KNOWING, but it may not be a bad as you fear and by going in early, it can be treated easier.
Sounds like an old cliche,.....but one step at at time.
All this worrying can't be good for you and it will make you miserable to worry and it may not even be as bad as you fear until the biopsy is done.
Please don't wait and take care of this now if you can.
Be sure to check in and let us know what you decided.....I sure don't want to tell you what you should do, but I don't want something that may be easily treated NOW get worse cuz you waited a while. Trust me, I made that mistake. Please reconsider and reschedule.
Sincerely,
Kmarie

Crazy thing is I'm not scared. I should'nt say this but I find myself thinking that with cancer you know what your dealing with so you at least know what to try. I mean a name does'nt make it worse. Ugh I know how horrible that sounds but ... not knowing if you're on the right track takes its toll. I will r/s appt. I dont know why I backed out. When they said they were going to shave my head to biopsy 3 areas I did'nt flinch but when I got home and saw no hair it must have weirded me out. I look like a freak. My hair has always been white blonde and my eyebrows are practically invisible so I look like a hairless green-eyed albino. Do you know if squama plasia and lichen sclerosus are similar?

Kiki, I'm sure sorry you're going through all this. It's odd, I couldn't find anything about this on the scalp but as you said Kmarie - the private area is where this seemed talked about. Squamous cell hyperplasia is not a distinct entity
it is only a description of a morphologic alteration of vulvar skin. Since the causes of vulvar epithelial hyperplasia are many, each of them should be properly identified, diagnosed and treated accordingly. Such conditions as lichen sclerosus, psoriasis, lichen planus, lichen simplex chronicus, eczema, seborrheic dermatosis, HPV infection, Candida infection may show squamous cell hyperplasia, but need to be properly identified. www.asccp.org/edu/practice/vulva/squamous.shtml
