You too eh Toni!! ive always had a hankering for peanut butter but never buy it because I am out of controle with it. In fact that was a source of contention in my marriage, I would scarf up the peanut butter and not replace it. LOL ;D i dont blame him for getting mad but I just cant controle myself and never would buy it for fear of getting fat. But heck Im already fat so whats the difference now Im giving in to my desires FINALLY !! ;D being a vegetarian and eating low carbs has really been a problem for the last few years. No matter how much I ate I would still feel hungry. This is such a revelation for me. Theres some kind of nutrition that i must be lacking thats in the peanuts. Your right Toni its packed full of nutrition. Great protein, iron b vitamins and several minerals too. The only drawback Ive read is they may contain some sort of mold and that would be esp bad for someone with candida but Im so thrilled right now Ill take my chances! Did you know its not even a nut?! Its actually a legume! Why they call it a nut i dont know

You got me!!! My mind went directly into the gutter.... ;D ;D So Luecine, Gylcine, Arginine, Niacin, Glutamic Acid, and Folate seem to be the big players here. Source: USDA Nutrient database Health benefits Peanuts are a rich source of protein (roughly 30 grams per cup after roasting). As with most legumes, its protein is relatively high in lysine and relatively low in methionine. An example of an extremely nutritious peanut-based food to restore health in starving-malnourished children is Plumpy'nut.
Peanut oil is a mainly monounsaturated fat (50%), much of which (97%) is oleic acid. Saturated fatty acids compose 13% of peanut fat, where palmitic acid is the most present (74%) followed by stearic acid (16%). Some say peanuts are an unbalanced source of fat because they have only trace amounts of required Omega-3 fats.[10]
Some brands of peanut butter are fortified with Omega-3 in the form of flaxseed oil to balance the ratio of Omega-3 to Omega-6.
Niacin Peanuts are a good source of niacin and thus contribute to brain health, brain circulation and blood flow.[11]
Peanuts and antioxidants Recent research on peanuts and nuts in general has found antioxidants and other chemicals that may provide health benefits.[12] New research shows peanuts rival the antioxidant content of many fruits. Roasted peanuts rival the antioxidant content of blackberries and strawberries, and are far richer in antioxidants than apples, carrots or beets. Research conducted by a team of University of Florida scientists, published in the journal Food Chemistry, shows that peanuts contain high concentrations of antioxidant polyphenols, primarily a compound called p-coumaric acid, and that roasting can increase peanuts' p-coumaric acid levels, boosting their overall antioxidant content by as much as 22%.[13]
Peanuts as a source of resveratrol Peanuts are a significant source of resveratrol, a chemical studied for potential anti-aging effects and also associated with reduced cardiovascular disease and reduced cancer risk. French researchers, Dr. Johan Auwerx and colleagues from the Institute of Genetics and Molecular and Cellular Biology in Illkirch, France, recently conducted an animal study to test the effects of high doses of resveratrol on exercise endurance in mice. The results, announced in November 2006, showed that the mice treated with resveratrol were found to have energy-charged muscles and a lower heart rate, much like trained athletes — they could run twice as far as the mice that were not supplemented. Dr. Auwerx said that "Resveratrol makes you look like a trained athlete without the training".[14]
It has recently been found that the average amount of resveratrol in one ounce of commonly eaten peanuts without the skin (15 whole peanut kernels) is 73 ìg.[15] This means that ounce for ounce, peanuts contain almost 30 times as much resveratrol as grapes, which often are touted as being one of the few good sources of the antioxidant.[16]
Peanuts and coenzyme Q10 Peanuts are a source of Coenzyme Q10 along with oily fish, beef, soybeans and spinach.[17]I don't know, it also says that peanuts are commonly contaminated with Aspergillus and associated with aflatoxins. And get this, most of the peanut production is from China. Eeek. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peanut

Hi, Friskers and All, Well, yes---I too, thought of the man's body part, because it was Friskers asking the question. Then peanuts---you gave too many hints. That is great news to have found out your poor body is lacking protein. Plain old low blood sugar from not eating enough or whatever can really ruin your sleep. Same with being dehydrated---for some, anyway. Ahhh, now you can sleep zzzzz..... I remember you talking about how you were raiding the fridge in your sleep every night . Friski --- I do remember the Jim Carrey movie with the stewardess asking if the passengers want what really sounds like "penis" --- she has a lisp and it sounded more like penis than peanuts. That was really funny !!! I would like to really emphasize the warning against peanuts for anyone who has lurking viruses. I don't think it is just herpes. I was totally shocked to have gotten not one, but TONS of cold sores (herpes) on my lips and in my mouth on my gums and then got meningitis with seizures that I still have from about ten months ago when I added peanuts to my diet !!!! Of course, not everyone who has had cold sores would have this happen. I only had a bit of peanut butter on a piece of bread every other day for a few weeks and that was enough to do it. I had never had more than one cold sore at a time --- maybe one to two times a year. Other thing that makes the arginine in peanuts more virally active is caffeine. From tea, coffee, whatever. Oh, yeah---fun, fun---chocolate is high in arginine, too . Here is the potentially good news !! You MAY be able to eat your peanuts, chocolate, and caffeine IF you can handle taking L-lysine as it counteracts arginine. It has to be taken on an empty stomach to work. I do not remember the dose range. I cannot take it cuz it gives me diarrhea. Worth a try though.

Nice to see you again Liatris i must have missed your bad episode of cold sores and meningitis and had no idea it was from peanuts. That sucks! I guess the lesson here is one persons nutrition can be anothers posion. Also its a good idea to eat peanuts away from other people as some have very severe allergies to them. Eat peanuts with caution!
