Dear Folks, Thanks for the support...and camv, you've probably hit it on the head, but I'm hoping at this point that you may be wrong...? Now the insult of ALL insults: Prior to my coming to Boston, I called my medical insurance company, Connecticare for pre-authorization. I personally spoke with two medical clinicians and told them that I had an infection of some type of unknown parasite...and that no doctors in the State of CT have been able to identify. I requested an out of state approval to visit an expert, as requested by my PCP, and they conferred, and both gave verbal approval for my appointment. My PCP filled out all the necessary forms for pre-authorization and faxed them in that day...(I have copies). TODAY, at 1:30PM, the time of my appointment, I received a phone message (I was out) from my PCP's office stating that Connecticare sent them a letter that I WAS NOT PRE-APPROVED for my visit to Boston!!! Now, if the appointment had not been postponed, I would have been having tests done, etc., meeting with the specialist at God knows how much per hour, only to find when I arrived at home, that I was not covered for any of it!!! Not only has this caused me severe duress that I have incurred additional medical debt, but that I now cannot trust the insurance company that insures me - at GREAT COST!!! What the h*ll is happening to our country? Medical care and Mr. Obama's insurance for everyone? I intend to send letters with explicit detail to my two State Senators, Dodd and Lieberman, the Attorney General, Richard Blumenthal, the State Insurance Commissioner, and to President Obama. The fact that our president was a graduate of Harvard, and the Chief of Infectious Disease recommended I see this particular expert, and Connecticare deemed that this is not suitable, I wonder what Mr. Obama will say about this? If there isn't a quick and complete resolution to this problem by the end of this month, I will appeal to the national media on behalf of all people who have been put in this position. It is absolutely unacceptable for this to happen in this country! I will seek legal counsel and file suit against any and all who continue to treat us as second class citizens. Thank you for supporting me, and if you have any additional ideas as to how I can get our point across, please do let me hear from you! Love, ctbarb

See Barb? God made you get a postponement for that reason alone. I knew there had to be a reason for it. I'm sorry that it's happened tho... I think you have the right idea as to how to dispute it all. As far as Obama goes, I myself think the man could be the anti Christ... he scares the peewaddley outta me! Probably shoudn't be saying that on a public forum either, but it's the way I feel... and I say what I feel.
I'll be praying Barb...
love you ~~ bannanny

Can't even begin to say what I feel about insurance companies making the decisions on our health care . Whatta country this has gotten to be. Pay through the nose for health insurance and some bean-counter gets the final say as to whether you will get the care you are paying for. Sorry that this is happening to you Barb, with this mess to deal with the last thing you need is more stress in your life.

Barb,
This beats all I've ever heard! I won't say what's really on my mind, I'm angry about it too, I'd be livid! Raise hail, Barb - you've got to squeak and squeak loudly!

Barb said: " I wonder what Mr. Obama will say about this?" Well, my dear, sweet and angry friend, he would probably reply, "As they say in the country which has become my respected role model, Toughski Schitzsky, you-all!"

Barb, Yes, that sure is good news, and bad. Good - in that you didn't get hit with a bill that wasn't covered by your insurance, bad that it fell through of course. ------------------------------------------------------------------- You said: Now the insult of ALL insults: Prior to my coming to Boston, I called my medical insurance company, Connecticare for pre-authorization. I personally spoke with two medical clinicians and told them that I had an infection of some type of unknown parasite...and that no doctors in the State of CT have been able to identify. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Here's what I'm wondering "being the devils advocate, and trying to see it from their position, for your sake, and for any one else who's trying to get appointments with a doctor who is (willing) to look. I don't understand "why" you'd tell them (it's an unknown parasite)? We can't be doctors, if we want help. I mean that with kindness, in that we cannot "self diagnose", because we have found that that's a sure fire way to get "turned away". Like saying "morgellons". Doors close. Why can't you just say, you want to see a doctor at that office, because something is wrong, and you're very ill? And you want another opinion as referred by your regular physician? Wouldn't that work? Maybe? Possibly I don't understand the entire picture, but we don't know we have an unknown parasite. Nothing has been established. Because no matter what we say, we don't have the credentials to tell anyone (in the medical field) that we have this or that. We have to put ourselves in a position of a "patient" needing help, and telling them what is wrong....but without saying what we think this is. (that's for them to see or hopefully see). We see what we see (with our scopes) and eyes, but...the truth is IF we want help...we've got to "go into it" playing the game and ignorant, except for the fact that our body is ill with something needing diagnosed. Maybe I just don't understand.

Barb...
Jeany and I just had a brief chat about it and we both came to the same conclusions immediately. It's as if your doctor, upon finding something, notified someone or your Insurance Company... to keep what he saw from being found out!... like this is some sort of backdoor plot?
I hope things aren't on this low of a low down in our Country... surely not?

ctbarb, I would let the Boston doctor know what has happened. Maybe he/she is interested enough to not charge you or could intervene on your behalf with your insurance company. Maybe he/she knows how to get around this bullcrap. It's worth a try!

WHAT?!?[/size] Those SOB'S!!
Kam and I just talked about this..and I am LOADED!
You know, I don't live in this country and thankfully I don't need to rely on any docs or insurance companies over here, but as I stated before in another post..
What has happened to this beautiful country? What's going on?
Is every darn thing about money, greed and the upper 10.000 ?Don't the American citizens count anymore? A country world wide known for it's loyalty to it's people?
I don't want to cuss over the USA, please don't get me wrong..It's your 'case' Barb, that makes me very, very angry..I'm sitting here and about to explode over so much arrogance, ignorance, stupidity, DECEITFULNESS and DISHONESTY!
But I must honestly say..It's the same all over the world. It's the times we are living in..the world wide economy is about to 'fall' and every single western country is struggling and trying to keep their country from a total break down!
You know..actually I thought in the beginning everything would turn out just fine for you..but after a while, I felt something was 'fishy'..
Kam and I just came home and I turned my computer on and read your post...HA!..somehow my intuition never fails me..but this time it was a bad one!
Let me tell you what I think, Barb...
I bet they canceled your appointment on purpose..well..yeah..of course! That doctor who saw your pictures, knew exactly what is going on..that's what I think. So, to gain time, he made up an emergency case and let his secretary lie for him..In the mean time he probably called all his buddy colleagues telling them what he saw and I bet, they warned him and told him not to treat you so he doesn't get involved in this MASS COVERUP of the so called Official CDC Investigation according Morgellons Disease! Although you didn't mention it, I bet he recognized it..!
The Health Insurances are also tied up in this woven ball of LIARS, headed by Obama. (try to sue me, get me..haha..I'm a german citizen, you guys..untouchable..too bad)
Just imagine what would happen, if people all over the world would find out what and who is behind this terrible disease! It would cause a world wide disaster! The USA would be 'crucified'!
Anyway..I think that doc called the Insurance Company and they helped him in that way to tell you your treatment is not covered. That's how they wanted to get rid of you. They were assuming you couldn't afford to pay that doc off with your private money and would leave for home!!
It was an evil PLOT!..if you ask me!
I am very sorry this happened to you, my friend. Go ahead and do what you said in your post..try to inform everybody you can think of that could 'stir' up some trouble!
Light a fire under their A**!! SUE them! Do whatever you need to do to get your American rights as a true American Citizen!
Do not let loose and let them get away with this! And as far as I know you by now..YOU WON'T!!
Try to get that appointment in January under all circumstances! Go see them eye to eye..let them know what you think and confront them with your anger!
Don't let them intimidate you in any form, because they think they are God and have the right to decide whether if you're dead or alive!
They don't!... because..like my friend's mom always said..'They are all just humans..they eat and then go poo'! And all of them have a WEAK spot you can 'stab into' just in the right moment! Like my dad always said: 'you need to get them when they least expect it'!
I know this sounds quite aggressive..to some of you, but this case of yours, Barb, is one of those cases I would call: AGAINST ALL HUMAN RIGHTS AND HUMANITY ITSELF!
...and it makes me MAD, very MAD!

Bad news Barb, hope you get it worked out. It all depends on how long you have had this & how infected you are. A long delay is not good. Sad how they keep this delay on anything being done for anyone in ten years... wonder when anyone is going to stop this. I flat gave up on listening to when they say they will have answers. What a joke this has all been. They are waiting on an event to occur. That's the way I feel about it. Because they can't dig themselves out of the hole they have gotten into. I feel Wormwood has come & will eat anything it can until someone stops it.

Good evening, and thank you for your comments. Toni, I WAS told that I had parasites...from the university microbiologist. In fact, I have the actual worms of Angiostrongylus cantonensis (rat lungworm) in jars...along with their capsules. My PCP has seen those as well and did confirm that they were indeed parasites. So that is why I told the insurance company that...and on his prescription form he said that he wanted me checked for "unknown parasites" etc. They already had that information. But your points are well taken, thank you. I was offerred another doctor to see in just a couple of weeks, but declined their offer. I specifically wanted to see this specialist because he commented that he "recognized some organisms" from my pix. Could be that he recognized the A. cantonensis specimens, I really don't know. Whatever he saw, I want to know, clear and simple. He is willing to see me, and at that point while speaking with his secretary, nothing was mentioned about my insurance, but if it was noted, and they cancelled me, they did a very good job. I can usually tell when someone is lying, especially over the phone...I worked in the corporate field for more than 40 years...and have seen and heard it all! If, by chance, someone did recognize our "disease" and they clearly would have since my specimens were covered with fibers of all colors, then the plot really thickens. However, at this point in time, my concern is with the insurance company and their outright refusal to authorize treatment, after pre-authorizing treatment to me. Both of the clinicians were asked by me if they were the person in charge of making those decisions and they both told me yes. No question about that. Now they will have to prove to me the reasons why they have rescinded their decision. Now, I have worked for executives in two major insurance companies in my state... I know how it works...and also, when it doesn't! The procedures are generally the same within all insurance companies...either you do, or when you don't, you must have the reasons why. In my case, they could say that it was because I asked for treatment out of state, however, it clearly states in the policy that pre-authorization requests must be made and the procedures to do so. I followed them to the letter, and so did my PCP. Come Monday morning, the president of the company will be receiving a call from me. If he doesn't take the call, his executive assistant will hear the story (as I have done so many times in my career), and research the issue. I guarantee you that there will be an answer....I may not like it, but it will be part of a paper trail that will be used to answer further questions. Trust me, I know how the system works, and with telephone calls and letters to those in the proper channels that I mentioned previously, there will be a response. If the response is not in my favor, I will take it to the media...in the insurance center of the US. I doubt that they will like the negative press with the vote for our healthcare bill in the offing. I did not spend my entire career in the "Ivory Towers" of Fortune 100 companies without knowing how the corporate system works. This will be in my favor. There are some fair people out there with integrity...and I do know a few. Richard Blumenthal is one of them, and a tiger at getting to the bottom of such investigations. I think you recognize his name...he was the man who has made them change the way Lyme sufferers will be treated now and in the future. He will be one of my first calls. I know what you are probably thinking...and you could be right, but I can tell you this - I will not let go of this fight! This is not the kind of mistreatment that can continue and without a voice to tell them what has happened, there can be no action taken. I did not come back here to lose this fight...I was returned to finish my work, and it will be done. I cannot accept failure! I have been fighting for 11 years, and a few more months will not change things one iota. I will not get better anytime soon, but, there is one thing that is evident: If what the doctor recognized in my pix was contagious or infectious, I would have been seen, hospitalized and quarantined! Therefore, whatever I have, is NOT infectious, IMO. If I am, then the decision to let me walk free without attention from anyone, is something they will be responsible for. As always, comments are welcome, either pro or con, to shed light on my thinking, or to enlighten me further. Your support and prayers have gotten me through this far, and will continue to do so, and I thank you as always. Love, ctbarb

Barb,
Thanks for your detailed explanation. It certainly helped me understand your situation better.
May I ask if your medical history or most current attempts at treatment might possibly reflect apon an insurance companies refusal?
This is a more general question. Are insurance companies known to approve treatment or testing in the area of 'rare parasitic infection'. This is the USA and we don't have these things here right? I am not one that believes "a memo" went out denying treatment to morgies. I am aware and know to many in the position to hand it over if the memo indeed exists. Not that your situation has to do with a memo but it appears to be in the same vein based on your discussion.
All I can say is good luck and I hope you are able to get around the red tape and still see this Dr.

Thank you JJ for your questions. No, my medical history does not include any refusals for treatment, of course, just when the attending doctor has no idea what it is, and then it isn't refusal, it is ignorance!
I do not believe that there was any kind of "memo" or any other type of communication between the insurance company and the provider...but I could be mistaken. This is not general practice, and that would be considered unethical business practice...but we all know.....anything can occur. I truly do not believe that this is the case here. I do believe that the insurance company may have contacted previous ID doctors that I have seen, especially the latest one who declared I was DOP. If that is the case, and their determination was based solely on his dx, then this is a whole NEW BALL GAME! If there is even a 'hint' of this happening, I will have an investigation started with the Attorney General's Office. No question about it! In fact, I will mention this question specifically to him. I hadn't thought about that. Thanks for the question...interesting possibility.
Hugs,
ctbarb

Dear, dear Barb,
I too am outraged, first about the enormous emotional let-down for you, after the encouraging build-up,...hope for help and affirmation at last, to be shot down again. That's what I most feared for you, but I thought it would come after the fact, not before! That let down takes a huge toll toll emotionally, esp. after your enormous pain over reading in "kammys request" thread of the CDC's continued abuse of sludge to fertilizer research that your beloved husb. conducted, yet another an outrage, that he fought and tragically died for so long ago. My god woman, what a hellacious week you've had. Even tho' you say your body is broken, your spirit is that of an Olympian! Your courage and your considerable skill in fighting the good fight, for you and for us all, is an inspiration! The only good thing that has come out of this plague for me is the discovery of people like you, and the countless others here, unbelievably resilient in the face of this peculiar and often terrifying illness, people of incredible caring and compassion, whose generosity of spirit damned impressive intelligence pick others up when we feel broken...too tired and just too "weirded out" to go on. What in the name of god would we have done without each other!
First, I am hopeful that the ID specialist did indeed have a critical pt. and that you will see and work with her in Jan. to advance your care and our "cause". If she did canc. for a pt. , that sets her far apart from the masses of MDs. I think you are wise to have declined another MD as her recog. of something in your samples may be huge! You've fought this for 11 years so another 2 mos. is a setback but not a defeat.
Now, for those bastards- insurance people! They dont know who they are messing with. I know you have names and dates and records of calls to document you followed SOP, and your PCP can confirm the same. I think your PCP should take this up with you too, as that referral is key to ins. approval. I better understand your sit. after your reply that you've been confirmed by PCP w/ A. Strongylus. Were you treated for that ? Ivermectin, Praziquantel...maybe? Any help?
I wondered very recently if Atty. Gen. Blumenthal in CT could possibly be of any help to Morgies. He's shown his "big ones" in going after CDC on Lyme. Since you are in CT I think involving him would be very wise! He clearly has valuable evidence on how this whole Lyme disaster has been fraudulent, so conspicuously mismanaged by CDC, and our experience is orders of magnitude worse, IMHO. I wonder why the Lyme Community hasn't been of more help to us, w/ most of us co-infected w/ Lyme, as CDC/NIH diagnostic tree explicitly states. I very get it that they/we have formidable Lyme battles to fight but "this" is part of "that" and I for one resent that we're on our own with this. The general medical & public perception that we're all DOP, w/ symptoms so unbelievable (even to US) that we ARE the aliens, the "bastard step-children" Lyme community...a "radioactive element," that's too controversial to bring into the fold. I must say tho', your experience has me feeling less depleted and depressed and a helluva lot more teed off right now and that's energizing me to stop whining and get up and fight!
I am so deeply sorry for the blows you've been dealt but I am confident that with what you've shared, BID MD apt. will happen after the insurance co. gets a smack down from you. Raise bloody hell Barb. You're damn straight Brab...this neglect/abuse has gone way too far and unless we start raising some hell, individually and collectively, we're going to be left to the mercy of the "Medical Industrial Complex" powers that be, and god knows that's going to get us nowhere fast.
Let me know your thoughts on organizing some "evidence" to take to Blumenthal. Is it of any value to include Morg stories from outside CT or are there others in CT who might be willing to join in an appeal to his office? Id gladly hop in my infested Morg-mobile to toot down to CT & meet up for some good old fashioned hell-raising. I also think your intent to involve the media is wise...let's get some investigative reporter somewhere to take this on...the CDC cover-up, the apparent conspiracy...the more I read the more I know of how little I know and that makes me very nervous.
I am so sorry we didnt get to talk...I was at work from 7:30 AM till 8:30 PM yest., trying to get half a days' work done on a day and a half schedule! Such is the state of my Morg infested mind, but there are a few IQ points left for this fight!
Love and hugs, Flo

Barb, thank you too for the elaboration, because it does help see the entire picture better. We all want you to be able to get this diag'ed by whom you choose. I now am wondering if the refusal was because "like you said"...out of state? I know our for instance, our insurance (only is good for NV) which sucks, because everytime we went to AZ or many MANY times to Calif, it was out of pocket...and it's a gouge and a half without the insurance use. I sure wish you luck with it all on Monday.

I hadn't thought about that. Thanks for the question...interesting possibility. Hugs, ctbarb Hi Barb My questions were not in reference to past Dr's refusing to treat you exactly, but touching more on your past records that might mislead present or future decisions by a Dr. or insurance company. However, a Dr's ignorance transcribed in your records as you suggested could no doubt have an effect. It shouldn't but I believe it can. The existence or non-existence of a memo I spoke of was a discussion that often came up in the past as a 'reason' why patients were denied the treatment they deserved. That is what I did'nt and do not believe existed because we have dedicated Dr's who would be able to verify it's existence. To this day it has not been verified. The closest thing to it is one of Koo's most resent publications indicating the Morgellons label should be used as a "rapport-enhancing term for delusions of parasitosis". I do believe that our Dr's do look for guidance in an unchartered area. There is plenty BS OUT THERE that could negatively influence them. They need guidance that isn't just here-say so to speak nor do they need or want anything that further burdens them in an area they are so closely controlled already. Unfortunately they have lost the ability to follow their own Hippocratic oath because most have fallen prey to CONTROL. I know I'm rambling here or maybe coming off as an advocate more for Dr's than patients. That's not the case. In order to get the care we need we have to be able to understand them and grasp their limitations and how they think. That goes for how they collaborate with insurance companies. Now we have added roadblocks because of so-called health care reform to include unnecessary testing. Everyone is on guard and looking to cover their own butts. Weighing all that together we need to come up with the best probable plan to get the care we deserve. I believe you know and understand that already Barb. I'm not PollyAnnaOstrich like many may think. I weigh EVERYTHING that contributes to a decision (even things I don't favor or believe) from all points of view and experiences and try to come to a conclusion that contributes to collaboration towards a goal. I really do want the best for you and I was encouraged by the Dr's initial comments and still am. JJ

I am so sorry to here about this Barb but there is an easy solution It is a common HMO tactic to try to get out of paying for expensive testing or treatments.. They call it "sticks and branches" (i.e. having to chop your way through a jungle of red-tape to get to what you have coming) If they make it too much trouble, you might just drop it!! Social Security Disability perfected the art and the HMO's jumped right on it!! They "did not" deny you "essential medical testing" they just tried to time it so you got stuck with the bill,, claiming the doctor you chose was "not suitable" enough.. You had postponed it but they did not know that!! Great for you,, very very verrrrry bad for them!! If you had went you would have gotten stuck with the bill for using a doctor that was "not suitable" for your medical needs.. Now they have to recommend, set an appointment with, and "PAY FOR" the same testing and treatment with a higher qualified and much more expensive doctor,, to do the same thing!! This is a business thing though "don't go nut's with it" and "don't go public" or they will drop you!! They expect you to contact them, so they can give you the run-around "don't do that" just "play dumb" and "file a complaint" with the "Department of Commerce and Insurance" in your state!! (1) the tests were already established as "essential medical need" so they must be provided!! (2) they were required "by law" to notify you "in writing" at-least "10 days" prior to your appointment that th doctor you had chosen "was not suitable",, not send a letter to your doctor on the day of your appointment and put the responsibility on them, to let you know, because your doctor is out of the "coverage responsibility loop" once it is turned over to another doctor... (3) If they receive "any" state or federal funding for group coverage,, "any" contractual non-compliance is a "breach of governmental contract" and an automatic loss of government contract, and of there insurance license as well.. (The same "non-compliance" rules apply to private insurers,, it's just not a willful breach of governmental contractual agreement) Because the testing has already been established as "essential medical need" the "Department of Commerce and Insurance" in your state,, will start a "investigation & legal action pending file" on your insurance company.. Because the case involves "essential medical need" The DC&I will contact "Connecticare" immediately and offer them the opportunity to correct the error and immediately by "setting you up with an appointment to see a qualified and much more expensive doctor, and COVER EVERY DIME OF IT!! The very same testing and treatment recommended by your medical doctor with a higher, more qualified, and much more expensive doctor" and "RIGHT NOW",, or a full legal investigation and disciplinary action will ensue "10 business days" from the date of there official request for action!! I am sure that Connecticare will tell the "Department of Commerce and Insurance" that they sent you a letter to let you know the doctor you chose was not qualified "well before your appointment",,,, but "it must have gotten lost in the mail" and will get you an appointment for the medically recommended testing set "right away!!!" The "investigation & legal action pending" file on Connecticare will remain there for 10 working days,, unless they provide the "DC&I" with a "Resolution Report" to go in the file,, then the file is moved to a "Resolution Hold File" dated for "legal action" 10 working days after the new doctor's appointment date,,, unless the doctor has sent a "conformation of required testing and/or treatments" to the "DC&I" letting them know that Connecticare resolved the issue and met there legal obligation.. If they receive the doctor's confirmation, it goes in the case file and closes the case... You got lucky,,, your really "much better off" !!!! The new doctor knows he will have to provide the "DC&I" with a full report of "his actions, testing preformed, the findings, and recommended and/or provided treatments" to be reviewed and added to the complaint resolution file,,, so you can bet the new doctor will be "very cooperative and extremely thorough" with everything!! I am sure that Connecticare will contact you to let you know that you do not have to contact the "Department of Commerce and Insurance" to resolve these kinds of issues,, that they have people to contact for this type of resolution... "PLAY DUMB",,, tell them "I am sorry,, I did not know that?.. A friend of mine told me that "because I am so sick, unable to do that, and it's a medical emergency",, I was suppose to contact the DC&I and let them sort it out for me.. But, now that I know,, I will contact you if anything happens again"... They can't drop you for making a mistake.. They "can drop you" for "public defamation of company reputation" if you have not tried to resolve the issue with them first, in accordance to legal company policy for member coverage,,, regardless of medical need!! If they drop you "you wont" get insurance anywhere!! Medical coverage is not like auto or home owners insurance,, if it has been medically deemed "of essential medical need" the "Department of Commerce and Insurance" does not take it lightly,, they will go after Connecticare like a "rabid-dog" demanding resolution, or court action!! Connecticare would not fare well at all, in your case "as you have presented it",, they know that too!!
