Hi --
It all started 2 months ago. First it was scabies, the symptoms fit. We got rid of them with elimite.. my daughter and her mom (they don't live with me) treated for scabies and they've been fine ever since. Me, well.. that is why I am here. After scabies, my face was breaking out and the crawling/biting sensation was relentless. Four trips to the MD and somehow was Dx as DP, which l then bought a microscope and after scraping.. confirmed 3 different types of canine mites living on me (demodex canis, injai, cornei) but I was Dx DP .. hah yeah, I guess he was right when MD said it was in my head.. quite literally.
Anyhow, I believe I now have M. Although, the mites are gone as a result of 2 ivermectin treatments, I can't shake the crawley feelings in my nose, my face and the strange M looking bits on my chest and my right calve.
I've begun supplements, I take enzyme baths and I spray my house with cedarcide. I was my clothes in either Borax or Dr. Bronners. I dont think these things like the mint at all. Cedarcide does seem to kill most insects I've tested with on Contact.
But what do I know? I only know things from teh countless hours I have read on the internet. After perusing so much, one can only start absorbing facts -- I shy away from what the potential cause might be -- in an effort to stay sane, and live in the solution and at the very least get some relief.
So now that i am in the "acceptance" stage of this disease. Yes, this is what I have.. I have many questions. I won't ask them all at once, but I will ask about what I fear most right and hope that somebody can shed some light.
1) Am I contagious?
I have a 4 year old and I don't know if I should spend time with her or not, in fear she gets this if she hasn't already. I am afraid for her to come in my house.. Since she did get the sarcoptic mites (scabies) from me, but not the demodex canis, etc.. I am assuming she didn't get M. Can she still get it from me?
2) My dog. Do I have to get rid of her?
I love her very much but she obviously infected me with the dog mites, which never bothered me for the many years that I have had dogs. I know that it's not her fault because dog mites aren't supposed to be zoonotic (heh, right) but the vet treated her for mites using Promeris 1x 2wks She is due for her third Promeris treatment.. I believe she has M as well. She hasn't been staying with me, but at a friends.. and they don't complain of itchy, crawley at all. I'm baffled.
For brevity sake, I will leave it at 2 questions. Oh boy do I have more.
Lastly, I am in Sarasota FL and have seen that others are as well. Would someone mind calling me and talking to me about MD's in the area that are helpful. I see that Dr. Reid has the support group, but I am 1hr from there, if I have to I will drive, but I was hoping someobody knows some good MDs locally. If you want to call me and talk, and are not local that is okay too. Just please PM me.
Thanks everybody in advance.

Cromwell,
Wanted to say hi, and I'm sorry you're in this "situation".
As for your questions, I don't think there's a factual answer as for if Morgs is contagious or not.
We all have had our personal experiences, but nothing can be for certain at this point yet.
You brought up an interesting senario too. Your friends not being bothered by the dog (critters). Just a thought, if they're not immunocompromised, then that makes sense that "the normal things in life are being warded off. It's when a person is compromised "then the world seems to have no barrier between us and it".
Take care, and thank you for sharing.

Hi cromwell, and welcome. We don't know if m is contagious however people who share the same environment might also become exposed. One other person in my home has this but did not get sick for well over 5 years. As for your dog, keep him, he needs your love and you are going to need his. Sorry to hear you have morgellons. We are here for your support.

Hello Cromwell. Welcome!!! I am sorry to see you here under the circumstances. We have some questions for you. What specifically are you talking about when you refer to M looking bits. We know what they are, but we don't know specifically what you are seeing. I think we all shied away from the potential causes until we found some relief. The answer would be possibly. What we are finding is that some people with genetic mutations and/or predispositions are more suseptable to exposure to Morgellons. A definitive answer as to yes or no is impossible to give to you as the causitive agent has not been officially identified. I also believe the duration and the type of exposure will also matter. You will be the best judge of this in your situation. You will have to evaluate the reaction of others around you. Do they manifest new and similar symptoms after spending time with you? Does everyone seem to get sick that is around you? Etc, yadi ya. I don't think the family she is staying with complains of the itchy or crawling because they are not suseptable and do not have morgellons. This is where I think your own person may be the problem. Obviously you are reacting whether she is there or not? I read on a german site once that animal mites are preferential to their host but when the animal host is not available, 30% of people are found attractive to them as well. I think fungi and bacterial infections are at the root of that. My family suffered four different mite infestations before they ended. Out of five people in my household, three of us have Morgellons and two did not. Interestingly, the two whom did not, have a slightly different ancestry than the other three, although we are all related. It is more in depth than what I have tried to keep brief for the sake of not overwhelming you. Keep your dog, and help her to beat this as well. Keep posting and asking questions. I believe some of us are shy about perhaps scaring the beegeebers out of you and we certainly don't want to cause any harm here. Hence the timidity. Sounds like you have a good start. Frito

Thanks for the responses.
I am worried about my dog because I think she has it but even if she doesn't have it, won't her "dog mites" keep getting on me? Or is that just something that happens during exposure?
Also, I am really curious about how other people who don't have custody with their children maintain visits.
my daughter means the world to me. she doesn't show symptoms now, but I can only assume she was exposed since she was staying with me so often during the beginning of all of this. God forbid.
As with everyone here, my life has been turned upside-down and quite frankly I am really frightened of everything. Fortunately, I am a recovering alcoholic with many years sobriety.. so I understand the value and comradery of a support group. I can't we can.

You said you bought a microscope? If I may ask, what kind is it? Do you have pictures you could post here on this thread of your samples?

fritolay66:
"What specifically are you talking about when you refer to M looking bits. We know what they are, but we don't know specifically what you are seeing."
I meant bites not bits. An attempt to describe them..
At night mostly, it will look similar to a mosquito bite on my chest area mostly, but has happened on my face but the bump in the middle is hard.
I purchased my own microscope and like many others have learned how to scrape my skin. I was never looking for M I was looking for demodex. Sure enough I discovered strange fuzzball-looking things that mostly contain blue worm-looking neon strands.. I've stopped scraping and microscoping a week ago as it doesn't help anymore.
Also, there seem to be strange lint-like things flying around my house and my car.. mostly bedroom and computer area.. I spray with enzymes and cedarcide which does seem to help some.
I just started getting these M symptoms and have read that I should address this with antibiotics and get lyme tested as well before the M develops and matures. I don't know how valid that is, but if I am at the enbryonic stage of this dreadful dz then I sure would like to know what to ask my MD to test for or find an MD that has some sort of clue.
The bites are not as frequent with the bathing in enzymes, but they do continue. Mostly, I have the lint-like stuff floating around my house and other than random itches I have what feels like things crawling in my nose around my cheeks, occasionally my ears and I also notices that when driving at night, lights really bother me and street signs are much more blurry than usual.

Firstly, fritolay66 is my sign on. Please, just frito, thanks. All of this sounds familar. I have more questions? Does your home have an HVAC system? Do you keep your car in the garage? Has your home ever been through water damage or pipes broken, sewage? I am not an antibiotics fan. Lyme testing is a good idea since many of us have either been positive for or are showing positive bands. Also, fungal testing might be a good idea. Some of us here have been growing out samples in petris in which are being identified as terresterial molds. Your best bet for an MD would be a Lyme Literate MD or LLMD. Most others,......are not thought of too well here due to many of our past and similar experiences. Cromwell, this is basically a toy microscope? Perhaps you need to consider a digital in which you can see more mag and also have the ability to post. I bought mine on amazon for 37.00. Will have to find a link and post later. Perhaps with a different one, you could see more. Keep posting and asking. More will speak up in time. Frito

NP about the thread locked temporarily.
Does your home have an HVAC system? yes with HEPA filter.. (albeit need to change) Do you keep your car in the garage? Yes, windows rolled up. Has your home ever been through water damage or pipes broken, sewage? No, it is a newer home built in 2005
the microscope is great 10x, 40x, and 100x but not digital.

Cromwell, Hello and welcome. So sorry that you have to be here but glad you found us and are well on your way to some relief from this horriible disease or whatever it is. My health declined approx two years BEFORE the crawlie sensations started. I had shortness of breath and dizziness for over two years. The climax was vacationing in Florida and a cat that I brought home from the Kennel. That's when I got the ungodly crawling sensations. Was it Florida? Was it the cat? Was it the food? I have absolutely no idea. I don't drink, smoke, or drugs, so it could not be the cause. I have no idea what caused it. My old boyfriend whom I spent five years with never got it. I gave the cat to my son and his family did not get sick.
I am around my beautiful grandkids quite often(not at first, cause like you, I was afraid I would give it to them)and they are free from any signs of this disease. Recently, I visited my mom and she wanted me to sleep in her bed and she slept on the couch.Weeks later when I was home, she complained on the phone, that she had feelings of itching and red marks were appearing on her skin. Several years ago, I drove an old old lady in my car to dinner. Shortly after that she said she had to go to the doctor with incredible itching that almost drove her crazy. She is better now and the itching gone. I NEVER EVER mentioned to her about me being sick. Also, once my grandson stayed all night and I had not had not cleaned well my home, and the next day he complained of itching all over. Was this all coincidence? I fear this can be spread if the body has a particular chemical situation, or the health is compromised. You may want to do what I did initially with my grandkids. Use gloves to touch their skin, don't kiss them on the mouth, don't allow them to use any of your towels. Don't let them sleep on your sheets. Don't allow them in your bedroom. Don't let them use your hairbrush. Before they take a bath in your tub, scrub it out well. You get my point. Use an air purifier at all times.
Cromwell, You are on the right track. I pray you get yourself a doctor who is familiar with this disease and can treat you properly. Be careful, there are a lot of opportunistic people out there trying to sell all kinds of things. They will tell you anything and sell you anything just to make themselves a buck. I am happy you are here for help and sad that you have to go through this. But know that on this board, we will support you emotionally all the way. You will definetly get a lot of help and friendship here on this board. We are a tight knit group, for those who want to share and help one another out. Stay the course! Take Care and God be with you, ChicagoBonnie

hi cromwell, sorry to hear of your news. you have a lot to take in now, and it won't always be easy. my best advice to you is to keep as level headed as possible about what you go through. try no to get caught up in blaming everything on morgellons. remember, you are still susceptible to other illnesses and conditions. don't ignore a health problem by chocking it up to morgellons. be your own worse skeptic. live life as normally as you can. one thing that can get in the way of this are disfiguring lesions. some good concealor and mineral makeup can help out there. as for you being contagious, i personally do not think this is contagious. i have had full on symptoms since 2006. i have interacted with family and friends. i have had intimate relations. i have spent time in close quarters. i have had the same massage therapist for since before i had this, and get a full body massage at least once a month. , and no one, not one single person has any sign or symptom of morgellons. in fact, i don't even know, nor have i personally met anyone who thinks they have this. now, when i have crap flying off of me and i feel like my skin is pudding, sure, i don't want to be around other people, or be touched by anyone. but you will know when those times are. try to look at the situation with more of a fascination than fear. have a sense of humor as much as you can about it. whatever you do, do not let it drive you crazy. this is a lonely disease at this juncture, so use the board as best as you can. it doesn't replace physical support, but the people here have pulled me out of slumps on more than one occasion. i am not going to say don't dwell on it. i don't think that's possible. but, do keep an open mind and don't make it the focus of every ailment. remember, no one hear really knows for sure what is going on. we are all basing our opinions on our personal history and anecdotal situtations - - not of hard scientific or medical fact. hopefully some day that will change. good luck dude

HI Mine startedd with mites. I spent a year or 2 (or 3?) glued to the microscopes and getting photographs. I thought I was going to help the scientists. I was naive. youtube vidsPicturesMany hundreds were erased when Sony's & Yahoo's Flikr equivalents poof went out of business re your nose: Take a q-tip and put a fairly large amount of Ivermectin paste from the tube they make for horses to coat a tip. ( I've had to use gel that was labeled paste lately. It worked but I think creamy paste is better). Coat the inside of your nose. Way back in there. Repeat for other side. Some of this will go in your system so don't take more Iver that day (maybe). Twice may be necessary. 2:Pour a few glugs of clorox in all your drains. I sprayed some into those little anti-flood holes too. I did this a couple weeks but prob not so much was necessary This kept them out of my nose for several years until I didn't wash dishes for a week. (drain breeding commenced) But repeating the procedure works. Laundry: I usually add borox and/or enzymes and oxy products - they hate peroxide. the sodium perborate in Oxyclean turns into Hydrogen peroxide in warm water for instance A double rinse cycle always. I throw a handful of salt unto the clothes stuck to the sides between rinses because I think intense salt kills some of them where it lands. They will wreck clothes that are woven certain ways. re Dogs: I see its in them in their fur. But no sores or itching. they take monthly heartworm medicine containing Ivermectin but most times I give them a weight appropriate dose of iver horse paste instead - (which I think is a lot more than a Heartguard dose contains.) Several vets I've told this to had no comment at all about the horse paste. Collie breeds - don't do this. The dogs seem normally comfortable and enjoy their life even though I let them get bored too much. They sleep next to me in bed. Ignoring it decreases its power (That's very hard to do!) I hope this helps you. from Suzanne

Hi cromwell... I always hate knowing that someone else has just entered this nightmare. I'm really sorry we have to meet like this. But here we are, so welcome to our lovely abode! You've come to the right place as far as getting all the support, love, and compassion you could ever hope for too. This place is my lifeline... always has been and always will be. I've been here since 2004 and I don't know where I'd be right now had I never found these guys. They've saved my life more than once, no matter how bad they might be hurting themselves. They're family to me now and I love each one of them with every part of my heart... but since no one here has a big head yet, that's enough of how wonderful they are. I can get too mushy for words sometimes... and just so ya know, I can be a bit weird too. We've really got some great researchers here tho. But even those of us who aren't that great at it share what we learn and what we go thru. I gotta say we've made alot of strides in doing so too. You never have to worry about not saying something cuz you think it might just be a little too bizarre either. We know stranger than strange better than anyone does! Actually, there's quite a few of us who are a tad off ourselves... but even so, we're still kind and caring nutcases. As far as morgs being contagious, I don't see how it can be for the same reasons ivanhole gave you. I'm one who's unfortunately become so saturated by this that it's hard for me to see a way out... and my environment is just as bad. But my mom, my ex-boyfriend, and a few of my closest friends still aren't effected by it in the least. They've all been in close contact with me and spent more than enough time in my environment with me too from the very beginning of my fight. Even my friends home is contaminated with morgs and they still don't feel it. I do when I'm there, I see it and feel it everywhere... but zip, nada, nothing as far as they're concerned. I think if you're gonna get it, you're gonna get it... but not becuz you were infected by someone who has it. If it was contagious in that respect, everyone on earth would be suffering with it by now. I'm leaning towards it being a certain gene that 30-40% of the population don't have (which would be us morgies IMO.) I can't remember the name of it, but it's a gene that fights off environmental toxins in the body and the one we lack. It makes the most sense to me anyway cuz morgs is an environmental toxin. This stuff is everywhere now too, and it's in our foods and in the air we breathe. In fact, I'd like to ask you where I can get some of this "cedarcide" you spray your environment with. I've tried everything but never even heard of that, so if you can let me know where to get some I'd love to give it a shot. I think enzymes are one of the best things you can use and take, and Borax and Dr. Bonners are good things too. It's also effective to mix white vinegar with Borax into your laundry. Grady (who used to post here) and now known as mrcommonsense has done alot of research and came up with a pretty good protocol. I think it'd be well worth it for you to at least start taking the NAC, with 1000mg. Vit C, and some Calm Magnesium. If you wanna keep an upper hand my friend, then you've got to attack this thing hard and you have to do it right now. Here's 2 links for you... the first is to a video where Grady explains his protocol. The 2nd is a list of the supplements he feels are crucial to fighting this outer limits of the twilight zone nightmare we're in.... morgellonspgpr.wordpress.com/2009/12/29/mr-common-sense-youtube-introduction/morgellonspgpr.wordpress.com/2009/08/08/morgellons-the-poor-mans-protocol/You don't have to begin with every single one of the supplements, but I'm sure everyone here will agree that it's important you at least start taking the 3 I mentioned above as soon as possible... like now. If I sound a little dramatic, it's becuz I know if you wait you're gonna have a lot tougher road ahead of you if you do. You also might wanna try putting some vicks on your bumps (I have those too) and then cover them with Hy-Tape overnight... helps to smother the suckers. It's good to keep an ionizer or air purifier running in your home too. Someone I know added peroxide to the water... she said it seemed to slow things down in her place alot. In the early stages especially, it's so very important to keep your environment as clean as you can, and everything you clean with clean too... like your vacuum, washer and dryer, and either throw out the rags you clean with or disinfect them in bonners or borax too. I just don't want you to get to the same place I'm in cromwell... I can't even clean anymore. Well I do, but it's so bad here that cleaning only disturbs it and causes it to produce even more. Morgs can reach a stage where it starts replicating what you just removed of it and continues to replicate on a non stop basis too. Believe me, I watch it happening 24/7 and there's not a dam thing I can do about it now. It's like a never ending supply of it being churned out by its little factories everywhere. It sucks even bigger time if you let it become the real monster it is. I don't even wanna say anything about your sweet pooch, but it wouldn't be right if I didn't either. I'm not saying this will happen in your case tho... but I lost my last 3 dogs to morgs. I became infected, my car became infected, my home became infected, and my precious babies became infected too. Maybe if I knew then what I know now they would've had a chance. If I could've kept it from spinning out of control, they might still be here with me. It's another one of the reasons I want you to be able to keep the upper hand. It's been the first time in my life I'm without animals, but I won't have another until this is over. I couldn't bear to watch another suffer like mine did. I don't even see many wild animals around here anymore... or bugs for that matter. But my land is even full of it.. it's bad in the entire area I live in, which is in So Cal. Toni, is it Panacur your sisters dog has had good results with? She'll let you know when she reads this, but you can also go to the "Supplements" board (it's among all the little boxes you can choose from at the top and bottom of this page.) I believe there's some info there for our pets as well. But if your girl seems to do better in another environment, I'd say keep her there cromwell. If she comes back to your place and starts itching, whimpering, and especially if she jumps up as tho she's trying to get away from something, then get her outta there and don't bring her back. But still make sure her feet, ears, eyes, and behind are kept clean tho, and give her baths with organic orange dog shampoo. I'd even give her distilled water in her bowl and feed her organic dog food too. Like I said, morgs is out there no matter where you go... but it may have been just becuz my dogs were with me that they also became infected. Just have your friends keep watch as to how your pup acts around them and compare how she becomes when she's with you. I don't want you to be without her... my heart hurts everyday without mine. But if it will save her the suffering to be somewhere else, it will have been worth everything. I forgot to mention I can end up writing a book instead of a post... but now ya know! Just one last thing to say tho that I also agree with ivan on. Don't let this thing stress you out or scare you... it feeds on those kinds of things. Deep breathing, yoga, and excercise are important too. Well, as frito put it... I hope I haven't scared the beegeebees outta you cromwell. But I don't hold back... I just think it's important for anyone new to this to know what can happen if you don't gain some control at the get go. I'm out to save anyone I can from this mess... no one should be living the nightmare as it is. So get those supplements and onward and upward! Oh, and tell me where to get some of that cedarcide stuff ok? hugs ~~ bannanny

Bannanny,
Yes, Panacur for dogs seems to do extremely great. Russell, (my sisters Jack Russell) at one time (few years ago) seemed a bit lethargic and would get rashes on his tummy.
Some days he'd not eat, nor want to play. Then Panacur was introduced into his life.
2x a month for only 3 days in a row he takes this (and it's on the package according to the dogs weight of how much is to be given). It's very easy.
For the last couple of years, Russell is the happiest dog I've ever seen. (well...I talk with him on the phone and he is a blast). When I call daily, my sis says it's Aunt Susan (toni) and he grabs the phone and paws at it.
Plays hard and eats like 3 dogs! He's doing great and there's no sign of anything wrong with him. We (my sis and I attribute this totally to Panacur).
So, if I still had my dog, that too is what she'd be taking, even just for preventative measures.
It's very safe, and it's only taken a "total" of 6 days out of every month.
The first, second, and third days of each month - one dose per these days.
Then the Panacur is stopped.
It's again taken (one dose) on the 13th, 14, 15th of each month also. That's it. Stop until the first of the next month again.
Imho, whatever is lurking "seems to show itself in different ways" whether it be in us or our pets. One will know if it "is".
Take care.
