Thanks Carrie! My daughter finally changed the way she eats after watching FOOD, Inc. CHECK OUT all the "FOOD" Documentary Movies out there being made! Food, Inc.2008 Drawing on Eric Schlosser's Fast Food Nation and Michael Pollan's The Omnivore's Dilemma, director Robert Kenner's Oscar-nominated documentary explores the food industry's detrimental effects on our health and environment. Kenner spotlights the men and women who are working to reform an industry rife with monopolies, questionable interpretations of laws and subsidies, political ties and rising rates of E. coli outbreaks.Food Beware: The French Organic Revolution Nos Enfants Nous Accuseront; That Should Not Be: Our Children Will Accuse Us (2008) NR Jean-Paul Jaud's documentary visits the Barjac village in France, where the mayor has mandated an all-organic menu for the lunch program in the local school. Farmers, parents, kids and health care advocates discuss the impact of the decision. School and government officials also weigh in on why people are dying of cancer in ever-increasing numbers, the food industry's role, the use of pesticides, nutrition and local sustainability. Genre:Foreign Documentaries, France This movie is:Heartfelt, Emotional Food Fight(2008) NR Discover the disturbing problems inherent in today's food system with this insightful documentary, which profiles chef Alice Waters's efforts to promote local, organic and sustainable agriculture as a delicious alternative to mass-produced fare. Narrated by actor Justin Kirk, this eye-opening examination of the food we eat features compelling interviews with author Michael Pollan and celebrity chefs such as Wolfgang Puck. Genre:Social & Cultural Documentaries, Political Documentaries, Food & Wine Food Matters(2008) NR With a staggering number of Americans suffering from obesity and other food-related maladies, this film takes a timely and hard-hitting look at how the food we eat is helping or hurting our health, and what we can do to live (and eat) better. Nutritionists, naturopaths, scientists, doctors, medical journalists and more weigh in on everything from using food as medicine to the value of organic food and the safety of the food we consume. Genre:Social & Cultural Documentaries, Food Stories, Food & Wine Super Size Me2004 On the heels of recent lawsuits against McDonald's, director Morgan Spurlock takes a hilarious and often terrifying look at the effects of fast food on the human body, using himself as the proverbial guinea pig. For one month, Spurlock eats nothing but McDonald's, ordering everything on the menu and "super-sizing" his order whenever asked. The result is a sobering examination of the line between personal and corporate responsibility. King Corn(2007) In Aaron Woolf's thought-provoking documentary, friends Ian Cheney and Curt Ellis move back to America's Corn Belt to plant an acre of the nation's most-grown and most-subsidized grain and follow their crop into the U.S. food supply. What they learn about genetically modified seeds, powerful herbicides and the realities of modern farming calls into question government subsidies, the fast-food lifestyle and the quality of what we eat.

Hi Tiski Friski! I've fallen off that wagon several times the last six months. But I just got back on this weekend after last week having some pretty bad gallbladder attacks! Doc says the ultrasound showed some stones in my gallbladder but the one that was stuck causing the attack must have passed. Honey my liver functions were 8x and my pancreas enzymes were 10x the normal amounts! I was tore up. I did another liver cleanse this weekend and passed lots of small stones, but no big ones like they measured in my gallbladder...so I'll be doing cleanses bi monthly. But that episode got me back on my raw vegan food plan. I feel SO MUCH better Friski when I eat nothing but raw food, it's amazing!!! I had lost about 35 lbs while I was on it. But gained another 10 lbs the last 6 months (with out even knowing, I wasn't THAT bad ) that I've been off and on it but that's cuz I was really eating shitt food too like whatever I want (but not really over eating ). I have to be really careful, I gain weight way too easy. No more sugar food, no more sugar food, sugar food is gross and tastes nasty, no more cookies and chocolate...they're disgusting...haha how about a dose of brainwashing? Oh, and this week I gave up coffee again too! Back to only herbal teas and water. You go girl! But you always look fabulous! If you try vegan, let me know how you're doing and how you're feeling.

Oh Carrie Im sorry about the gallbladder attacks. ive heard they can be very painful. Yikes! But hey You escaped surgery so thats great! I love eating cooked meals so im not sure I could do the raw thing but maybe this summer ill give it a try! i like eating raw when its hot outside . Ive probably packed on at least 15 pounds since you seen me last so im up for losing weight as long as its effortlessly! ;D Im so jazzed I dont miss eating yogurt at all. probably because I eat this vegan chocolate mouse everynight ;D i make it with stevia instead of agave but have made it with honey also even better and add a couple bananna slices and some sliced almonds and its amazing!I do it with a blender but you really need a food proccesor otherwise I add almond milk and sometimes coconut milk to thin it out so it will blend en.petitchef.com/recipes/raw-vegan-chocolate-mousse-fid-487868Oh wait you want to lose weight ? ;D well at least its a healthy desert and dont tell your kids you made it with avocados!

Oooooh Friski...that "Raw Vegan Chocolate Coconutty Heaven" looks to die for heavenly! Yep, I need to loose weight but I'll stick that in the folder for to remember! I do lots of different things with my salad. We mix some picante with some refried beans or even been making some green sauce (tomatillos) alone or with beans thanks to the instructions from my dad's new, beautiful, Hispanic wife. They were here last week when I was having those attacks... ...eeek. I eat a salad every day! ;D I love it...I feel so much better just eating 80% raw. Did anyone watch Food Inc? Awesome Opossum...haha don't eat that!

Carrie did you have any trouble when you first went raw? I have a hard time with some raw foods- the go straight through me and give me baaad cramps. Do you think my body will adjust after awhile? All I want is sugar and salty junk. I have no right complaining about no energy. Today I shoveled in so much crap, I'm gonna pay for it one way or another. I ate a whole quart of dairy queen soft serve in one sitting and almost a whole bag of sea salt vinegar chips. And that's just what I'll admit to. I'm disgusted.

Hi Carrie I was going to ask you what you ate for some ideas and thats what I lkie too is salads Ever since I gave up yogurt and started to try a vegan diet Ive been making all sorts of new dishes and really having fun with it . i never knew it could be so great! KIKI I think you have a sweet tooth like me but that doesnt mean you have to eat junk food . Try eating healthy sweets This is my next recipi I want to try but I will use stevia to sweeten with! Raw Brownies! Ingredients (use vegan versions): 1 cup ground pecans 1 cup dates (not soaked) 1/4 cup (heaping) cocao powder (you can use cocoa too) 1 good teaspoon agave nectar Icing: 1 tablespoon coconut oil or butter 1 tablespoon avocado (optional) 1 tablespoon agave 1/2 tablespoon cocao powder (or cocoa) Directions: Process the brownie ingredients. Press into a pan or bowl. Now process icing ingredients. If you use the coconut oil right out of the jar (firm) it should get very creamy in your food processor. If you do it by hand, warm up the oil jar in a bowl of water and use it in liquid form. Spread onto brownies. Refrigerate for at least ten minutes, That's as long as I can wait. now slice and enjoy!! Source of recipe: I came up with this recipe after a few tries. Makes: 2-4 servings, Preparation time: 20 minutes Share This Recipe --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Ruth If you missed it you can watch it online for FREE right here: wideeyecinema.com/?p=5752Another documentary from what Kmarie posted that's easily found online is Food Matters and that can bes een for FREE here: wideeyecinema.com/?p=7875OOOH Kmarie...I've never seen that. Friski, that talks about RAW FOODS you should check that one out. I'm going to watch that this morning. I agree with what I've heard so far...eating like I said even mostly RAW foods makes a noticeable difference in my over all feeling. Supersize Me: wideeyecinema.com/?p=68I wanna find King Corn but I'll find it one day. The World According to Monsanto is there too: wideeyecinema.com/?p=105 and the super discusting Monsanto wanting to Patent the Pig: wideeyecinema.com/?s=patent+the+pigLove that website!!! But ooh, listening to FOODMATTERS while I type this, can't wait to watch it. I don't know if I agree with dude talking not about vitamins, but I can get into a HUGE debate about this topic...especially with myself! My biggest issue with vitamins is they over burden the system and if you eat the RIGHT foods, you don't need them. ALSO the biggest factor, people kid themselves by taking vitamins, so they are getting what they require that way thus making it "okay" to eat shitt foods. I'm very much looking forward to that whole doc. Hi Daryl. ;D Me too! I'm working on it. I was working on buying a house so I could get chickens. And we've already got a lovely garden started this spring and a fab garden last summer. I love my city and state but we have such a short growing season. See Friski and Kiki, I can't play like that. MY BIGGEST ADDICTION is sugar!!! I've been addicted to lots of things in my life, some of the most notably addicting and hard to kick substances known to man (other than heroine) and could kick them no problem...but sugar is the worst, hardest to kick and stay off of chemical I've ever encountered!!! So Friski, I can't play on this diet. So not that I'm back on, I will not kill myself. I'll go out occasionally and have a regular dinner and be sure not to over indulge or eat bad foods. But I haven't gotten into a lot of cooking of things, that's the difference between raw and vegan. I prefer the raw thing...so that's why I'd mostly say I'm like 80-90% raw more than a vegan. Because I will eat some cooked beans on my salad, or some feta cheese, hard boiled egg, canned or boiled chicken, crunched up handful of tortilla chips, avocado or even a sprinkle of bacon bits. Not all at once but one or the other to give the salad some variety. So what this diet and way of eating has taught me about the good ol' Western diet is that our portions our HUGE, our meat portions or ridiculous or even that we have meat with every meal. We RARELY have a meal centered around meat in my house like we've always been taught and like we see in most restaurants or what most typical American meals look like. And Kiki, I could easily eat like that and have most of my life. I have to quite cold turkey and not eat any. Or when I have to have some, I will go out and have some so not to eat too much, or have it in my house. I constantly ignore my son's chips, he'll only eat Lays Salt & Vinegar chips...but that's not my big problem...cookies and sweets with chocolate are!!! Last night my daughter and I went to a coffee house for biscotti and coffee/cocoa. I won't kill myself over it...but won't do it often. After I made the raw switch my portion size changed on it's own and the desire to eat constantly dissipates. It was the best thing ever for me. I never, NEVER get sick anymore. I haven't had a cold/flu since I started last May and I used to get sick at least every other month for a couple days. Even when I got off the diet the last six months and ate more bad food, I still eat so much LESS meat, like very rarely eat beef so that leaves me to believe that beef is not so good for me and that eating lots of fruits and veggies is really, really good for me. Cuz I was eating badder foods at times, but still consistently eating lots more fruits and veggies than ever in my life before. Ugh my son is driving me crazy right now...muffins mommy, lets go make my muffins. ;D

Just turned a big whopping 8 years old...she's getting old. You know I can't water the garden with her around tho...she fights with the water from the hose...haha! Last year I bought starts from a nursery. This year we're getting bold and starting from seed! Impressed yet? That's just awesome Daryl! I'm so glad to hear that you're still doin' the Daryl thing...! You sound like you're doin' good. I bet your folks would sure appreciate a veggie garden too! All that space out there in the country... I ain't forgot about my new set of chains Daryl and Tonisue. I just haven't found the time to start a new thread. Hi Carrie,
Those links were very helpful in my being able to watch some of those videos. I watched three saturday, including Food, inc.
You gotta see King Corn. It is actually more specific than Food, Inc.
Once I get back on my feet, raw food here I come. Its also getting to be about Farmers Market time. FYI, GMO's are there as well. I always ask about seed.

Thank you for recommending those movies, and the website. It's led to hours of entertainment while doing stuff around the house. How sad the stories of the farmers were. Essentially, I guess they're in the same boat as us- with things going unexpectedly wrong. I hate to see it happening to anyone. Especially these older farmers who have worked their whole life on the land providing for us. And I don't know if many of them would come online to discover a community like this and find others in the same situation. I'm grateful to the documentary makers, and you guys, and anyone who can keep spreading the right story.

That's awesome Frito...glad to hear it. I can't get enough documentaries. I'm pretty pathetic anymore, that's about all I watch and will watch them on just about anything. I just love learning about all sorta stuff. Frontline has wonderful stuff you can watch online and NOVA too. Suff about the Mayans, Incans, all type of early human and evolution docs...love it. One of the best series ever is Guns, Germs and Steel! Wow...that was incredible to me to learn how and why colonization took over the way it did. You can find that three part series on Google video. Fab learning! And...and...and...What Darwin Never Knew! Whew...that was a fantastic and easy to understand!!! That one you can find on Frontline. Okay, okay, I'm done. I will find King Corn...I'll find it as a torrent one day when I have time...haha...right. I will tho...I will do it now actually while it's quiet here at work. Even switching to a substantial amount of raw foods in your diet make a serious notable change. On Wide Eye Cinema website I was checking out how a raw food diet cured 6 people of their diabetes in 30 days. Sure one could argue about all the variables with them folks giving up sugar and processed food could be why their diabetes switched but to give up sugar and processed foods you pretty much have to go raw! HA! Hi In Tokoyo...haven't seen you in a long while. ;D Very sad about our farmers and what's happening in our communities. There is so much unemployment and homelessness in my city/state...very sad.
