Hi! I wanted to thank every (wonderful)one here for the support, knowledge, advice, well everything! I have to admit that I have been a peeper, lurker(or what ever its called) for awhile - the lasts few months have been really hard - on top of being sick and hurtiing, have had bad anxiety and brain fog so I was scared of my own computer and it was to hard at the time to try and login(although if I was to get any kind of vital information -it would have been posted come hell or high water!). Thought "its time to come out of that shell" My dr. has me on Doxy and nizoral too - it seems to be working - Feel alot better these days!! I think it all began for me about 2 years ago - My husband and I live in the country and have 4 horses and a dog(the animals are like my kids). 2 yrs. ago my throughbred(Riley)got real sick - the vet told me she had EPM ( EPM effects the central nervous system- joint pain, spinal cord(sore back), nuero problems) so the vet put her on an IV of DMSO and saline and a shot of vitamin E once a week - for 3 weeks. Well she greatly improved in 2 months. Did not no she was pregnant at the time, but she ended up giving birth to a Healthy baby boy The vet told me that horses get EPM from possum droppings and that the horse is a dead end host(which means that it can't spread from horse to horse or people or other animals) "Well I think I would like to beg to differ" - around the same time all that was going on I thought I had caught mites or scabies or something, thought it was mites for about 7 mo.s. Well then the big boom hit - I had just come out of the bath tub and fell to the ground it felt like someone had a hold of my backbone and was trying to snap it in two. was also shedding some kind of fiber, cotton substance(my husband said it was so bad we could have opened up a cotton gin) anyway, went to the ER - my blood press. was 200/89(normal is 110/70) the ER said I had infammation around the heart and nodular in my lung. Well the rest is history after 7 doctors, no support(except my sister), A living HELL! I finally found a wonderful doctor. As of to date - (thru the good doc.) I am positive with MONO ( same thing as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) HHV6 Lyme disease last but not least " mold fungus" on my scalp! Taking Doxycycline and Nizoral - seems to do good - feeling alot better. Sure feels good to let this all out - sorry its soooo long! Have a nice evening! Patti

Hi Patti, Make yourself at home, come in, sit down, open up.
Good to see you here and glad for your courage. I'm in a hurry, but I'm sure many others will continue the thread.
I remembered about 6 months ago someone came here and was saying that they had back surgery, and low and behold wrapped around spinal, etc. was masses of Fibers... They took out what could, put her on meds for 4 months, and I guess a year later the same thing happened... I don't mean to alarm you in saying this, but it sparked that particular moment...
You may be on the Meds for a year, perhaps even 2... Stay for the long haul, slow uphill battle, patient endeavor and work...
Sincerely, Greg

Hi Patricia, Sorry you have to be here, but a big welcome to you... I love the sounds of how you care for your pets & that they are like your kids.... I'm a huge animal lover & if the animal is suffering it should be fixed..... So I was happy to hear of the birth of a healthy foal........
After reading so many sites over so many years, I certainly don't doubt what you beleive to be true..... I hope you find what works for you.......
I've had this since around 1998 & still to this day think that lice or scabies may be involved, I keep doing this little circle thing....... but deep down inside I feel its more.... (doesn't help when I recently found lice in my daughters hair again, my husband has a severe fungal infection happening at the moment).......
I'll probably continue to do this little circle thing (until someone comes up with that one magic pill).... I keep it under control with remedies I have learn't over the years through message boards & internet sites, vinegar, tea tree, coconut oil + many more. Immunity builders & trying to eat well....... It all seems to help me, but I still have flare up at times , but I can deal with it (well I keep telling myself that anyway).. .... i feel sorry for those who deal with it on a daily basis....
sounds like your one of the lucky ones to find a doctor who cares... keep us informed on how your doing ......... whats working for you etc........ Hugs to the animals to.....
take care....... debbie

Welcome, from one Patti to the other! I am also glad that you decided to start posting......Becky is right, the folks here couldn't be nicer or more understanding (and forgiving, which is important where this disease is concerned). I have horrible anxiety and brain fog too, which along with the pain, pretty much limits my days to time spent in bed. It's nice to hear that you have a doctor who is treating this, though, and I really hope that it's successful for you. May I ask how they tested you for that scalp fungus.....was it just a visual examination? Many here are also using the Nizoral and I'm thinking of picking some up for myself. Again, we welcome you and want you to throw that shell away.....you don't need it anymore. Hugs, Patti

Hi patricia1 (Patti):
Welcome! I am glad to see you post. I have read your story before, so perhaps it was on another message board? I remembered especially the pregnant mare and the treatment she got. Maybe it was on a Lyme or Skin board - or maybe a horse site. I have horses too and check into the horse world via the internet from time to time.
Your story reminded me that I too had the falling down with intense back pain experience. I don't remember much about it, but it did pass.
I don't think I got this from horses, but due to exposure to lice, scabies, or biting flies, etc. Not certain, it's all guessing. I think there could be a bug vector - the bite passes on a bacteria into our bodies (like a tick does) and the bacteria makes our bodies easier for parasites to live in. But, I'm waiting for the smart people to come up with the real answer.
But, given the above possibilities, I've been planning on non-chemical, non-wasp fly control for the upcoming fly season.
I plan to spray all the crevices in the stall areas with ammonia the next few days to kill any flies that crawled in for the winter. And, then to keep up with spraying apple cider vinegar every few days - feed the horses garlic powder and put apple cider vinegar in one of their water barrels - they like that.
The less flies, the better.
Welcome, and keep in touch!

Hello! Thank you "all" so much for the warm welcome - just recently started posting but befor that I only read and everyone here seems very nice ,smart and caring - all the good advice and the one's working so hard "FOR US ALL" to find the answer I feel is the reason I am alive to-day - God bless all of you!! I have only posted here a few times and have always used my name - I guess I'm just a big "WUSS" but I got my feelings hurt last night when reading another thread-can not remeber the thread but the comment was (I think) "I don't think this is the only Patti riding her High Horse"( I think it went like that). All I know is I spend most of my life now saying I'm "SORRY" and "EXPLANING" myself to others-day in and day out! I am sooo happy to be here - I feel safe and comforted(even if just reading)! Anyway thank you for letting me spill it out! QuestionHair(like that name), Thanks for the advice on the Apple vinegar! I'm going to do that too! How much do you put in the water trough? Have you heard of EPM? I thought I had mites or something in the beginning, but know after the first major episode I had that this is a "whole new ballgame"! Patti, You are so very Kind!! I went to the doctor all "Freaked out" - my hair was standing straight up and doing things that hair ain't suppose to-do. anyway I told the doctor that this is not my hair!!! The doctor just looked at it and felt around the scalp and came to the conclusion that it was a mold fungus. I like the Nizoral but when I use it , right at first it stirs things up a bit and then that feeling goes away. I'm in the Dallas, Texas area - I will be more than happy to give my dr. Info. to anyone who would like!! Have a nice day! Patti2

You said "but I got my feelings hurt last night when reading another thread-can not remeber the thread but the comment was (I think) "I don't think this is the only Patti riding her High Horse"( I think it went like that)."
**Don't feel bad patti, it had nothing to do with y ou. You just happened to come to the board on a day when a few posts were taken wrong. Actuall what was said was "seems to me theres only one poster here on their high horse..................and its not patti", meaning someonw else. We all seem to have days when we misinterpt what we read but in this case it wasnt directed at yuo anyway. Welcome to lymebusters anyway and remember that all here are wonderful and so helpful. I've been around a few months and the amiount of compassion shown to total strangers is amazing! All you people are the greatest! And patty, watch out for that Anthill, he will keep you laughing and in a good mood even if you dont want to be! take good care of yourself.

Info. to anyone who would like!! Have a nice day! Patti2 Hi Patti2 I put one whole gallon of Apple Cider Vinegar in one of those plastic drums that has just one end cut off. (Size is 50 gallons?) The rest is clean water. I try to get the Apple Cider that has the higher percentage of Acidity (4% or 5%?). I live in the southwest, and the soil is alkaline, so the horses need more acid. I have some arabian & half-arabian horses and a vet said they are more prone to get enteroliths (sp?) - so the ACV helps break that down. I think horses on the east coast have more acid available? Plus, the ACV makes them less appealing to flies. The horses like the ACV water and have free access to it. Also, make sure your horses have plain white salt blocks, not just the mineralized. (See LymePhotos website explanation at the end) Mine have plain, mineral, and sulphur salt blocks. They use the plain salt the most. Plus, I spray the horses with ACV, and their stalls, to deter flies. I've heard of EPM. Haven't seen it yet (knock on wood) Quite a few people here have reported that they originally had mites or something. It is possible that this starts with lice, scabies, or some type of mites. I had scabies when I first moved into this old ranch and started cleaning out old sheds. I also got lice - either from leaving my riding helmet at the trainers, or at the dentists. However, after treating for the lice, over and over again for several years - and never seeing lice after the first couple of treatments - I finally found out about this stuff. Since other people have had the same experience, it is possible that the lice, scabies, mite or bug-vector is just the beginning. Ticks carry bacteria that start Lymes, so maybe other things are possible too. The Nizoral sounds good. I am trying to get myself emotionally geared up to go back to a doctor again. Been just doing healthy stuff only. Hope things go well for you. QH
