So the other day I was outside and felt something bite me on my back. It was a springtail at the exact spot I felt the bite. I know they arent saposed to have mouth parts but it felt like a bite, Then I take my top off and find 3 more of the buggers running around on my bare belly. I killed them all. they are quite easy to kill actually. i know there springtails because I had one id from the pest controle and see how the jump just like fleas. Im not saying they are breeding off me. In fact its the first time Iv e seen them on me. The only different thing was earlier in the day I went through some sealed clothes and tried some skirts on because I had to dress up that evening. A couple a things smelled funky like mildew so I threw them in the luandry and put my other clothes back on.Maybe the springtails picked up athe mildew scent. The other day my neighbor also shewd away a termite from my hair! Ididnt see it. I wash and use a flea comb on my hair everyday. On the onset of this all years agoI had springtails and fleas infest my home. They were evrywhere and had pest controle come out several times and it did solve the problem. Anybody eles attracting bugs!? :-*Frisk

I'm not now but did notice at the onset that it seemed like we did attract flies...but not anymore. Have you ever considered making yourself a batch of teatree lotion as to keep outside insects that are attracted to you off? I know many like teatree...I used to use it constantly but I do know that like lice and fleas stay away from it, I wonder if others would stay away if you smelled like it a bit!? Just a thought!? I don't know anything about springtails Friski...but if they don't have mouthparts...what do you suppose caused the biting sensation!? Just curious as to your thoughts. I hate bugs...I so flip out when anything is on me...yuck. But the ones living under and on my skin...the thousands and thousands...they are now family...makes a difference. You know...since they are so dependent upon me, ya know...they're like my children !?

Carrie thanks for the suggestion but id rather have bugs than smell like tee tree!! ;D Maybe I will up my raw garlic. When I first got this all kinds of bugs were atracted to me, moths even. One night in the middle of the night i had an ant attack (no not our ANt!) in my bed . And for some weird reason i had found ants in my pubic hair several times. But that hasnt happened in years now. I dont know what made me feel the bite, thats a mystery to me. Maybe they dont really know everything about springtails and theres so mant different kinds. :-*Frisk

That's a good thought Frisk...they are finding new and mutated stuff all the time. Ant attack...oh no! My kids hated that tea tree oil...especially my daughter. Just thinkin' about it...makes me laugh...she used to get so irritated with me. "Ewe Mom...you stink!" Little brat. Yeah...raw garlic...that's a real good one. That should do it. How much do you do? I used to swallow a clove a day... I should start again...thanks for reminding me !

Suckers start chasing me.....but not in a mean way! They really want some of whatever it is we've become. Maybe if I just laid outside and let 'em polinate me........................nooooooooo, not good! Luv ya's ~~~ bannanny

Lol! ugh...pollenating - I was thinking today...how funny it could be when all of this turns against the greedy destroyers - like, results no one expected. Will I be able to jump 100 times the length of my body? Hmmmm...Interesting concepts -
3 transgenic springtails, hm. Sweet. *barf*

This is from Lymebusters Archives. Dr. Ken A. Christensen is considered a leading authority regarding Collembola. KChristiansen Guest collembola mouthparts « Reply #72 on Today at 7:53pm » -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Collembola display an enormous variety of different mouthparts ranging from simple piercing-sucking structures (seen in Figure 10B) to elaborate mouthparts (as seen in 10C). The simple piercing-sucking structures are probably associated with feeding on the juices of fungi or other liquid foods. Some of the complex mouthparts are associated with feeding on other tiny animals such as rotifers. However, we have no idea what most of the complex mouthparts are specialized for. www.emporia.edu/ksn/v39n1-october1992/part03.htm

Thanks for the link Guest...
You didn't highlight that they feed on nematodes but your link did...uuummmm. Tasty. Maybe that's part of the reason why some are really attracting them!? But it says they prefer fungi. Ugly little thangs.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I see they can have feeding mouthparts, i knew i was bit! ive seen these springtails all over my yard and they never bothered me till the other day. I eat 2 or 3 cloves of garlic raw a day. Carrie they say for the medicinal part to be releases you have to cut or mash the garlic first. Were you taking it like a pill, whole!? The pest controle guy considers them beneficial because they eat fungus so maybe they arent so bad! Its just creepy to have bugs crawl on you!! but hey better springtail than bees! ;D :-*Frisk

Friski, I take a clove (the lil part that you break of) and after I peel it and weash it, I cut it in half.
I then put it on top of a tostito/ dorrito and chew it on one side of my mouth only. Do not let it touch your tounge- it burns! Then I quickly swallow it and then chase it down with
what ever is there.....which is usually Merlot. Hah! but it's really true......I am never gonna get well until I quit the wines......
