If anyone is interested in getting a microscope I found the updated model of the QX-3 at www.JR.com for $69.88 + $5.95 for shipping. I also got a handheld one on amazon for $20.00 but it wasn't very durable. I really like the QX-5 but I wish it would work without the computor. It did not come with an instruction book so if anyone can give some pointers I would appreciate it. I have no idea how to put the pictures online.

what kind of pointer's do you need installation? or just general info on how to use it? I have an instrucion book for the Qx3 that should work for the QX5 That I could scan into my computer and send email if you want this is the changes they made other than that it's the same as the Qx3 in a sense all they did was fix the microscope's weak points Super-brite LED lighting for brighter, longer lasting top and bottom illumination (needed badly) Higher resolution (640x480) for more detailed images (needed badly) Video playback now three times faster at 15 frames per second* Sample measurement tools built into the software

yes the Qx3 & the Qx5 make still pictures as well as AVI moving video's if you have the right software you can record to a VCR tape If you have a DVD burner on your computer you can burn a DVD and then play it on your DVD player hooked up to your TV less hassle than trying to find the software and all the wires to hook up your VCR to your computer With the Qx3 & the Qx5 youcan record things that are moving and save them as an avi file and send in emails also if you have a webcam you can hook your Qx3 & the Qx5 into the webcam feed and send live streaming microscope pictures over the internet like this go to the drop down menu and click on PG anthill piwebcams.com/indexwc.php?fcamsI't just dawned on me that you were asking if it would work with a tv or a vcr no you need a computer to make it work

Not being able to connect to TV or VCR complicates the issue for me---you would have to understand the intrcacies of webtv to understand, My wife is the computer person in thiws house hold--- I can connect with a vidio camera and a digital camera and printer so I can't understand not being able to use the scope---It does need a USB port. Are you sure there is no way--it is a vidio signal is it not? I can use a web cam also.

I also have a DVD burner hooked up to my webtv system. I can go from VCR to DVD or the other way if I choose... I guess that I'll have to give them a call tomorrow.

when you said Web TV you just reached the end of my expertise having never seen a web TV I am not sure how that would hook up I run A IBM aptiva which is a full fledged computer and I can tell you all about that but web TV not"
I just did some googling and I didn't see any indication that Qx5 was compatible with web TV I could be wrong you might do some checking yourself
Yes it needs a usb port and you need to be able to download a software disk if you have a usb port and a way to download a software disk it might be possible Still I would do some googling to find out for sure

Thank you--I'll report back---I have heard and seen so many different things here that it would be nice to show others what is bugging me,,, I have a black specks (egg)the black threads emerge or unravel from these--a clear to white filliment--long smooth black worm like threads..red threads--once in a while a green one-- My scalp is the worst, very flakie and itchie--then ear canals-black threads from eye matter and mucus from my nose,Some times I have sneezing fits. If I have a sore that is healing over there are short fibers , both clear and black. the clear stand up and the black just lay there. I have yet to see any animation from any thing except on a q-tip and that remains un explained, Neosporin works in the ears--Witch hazel cleans them up---just pouring salt on my scalp and rubbing it in real good does wonders for the scalp--BUT no cure because it is a systemic bacterial infection.. No virus will do this...the bacteria feeds on sinuas tissue and lymph. It loves hair folicals-- It loves fat and natural oils--ear wax etc. Septra seems to knock it aka: jeff--schwarts protocal but just try getting it, They will however give you all the prozac you can carry home with you so take a very large bag.Now if you take enough of that crap you won't care what you have. I need some pics--therefore the Qx=5 scope. I have got to prove to my self, if no one else, that I'm not nutzzz. But HEY! this stuff will make you buggie... Remember the old cliche, he went buggs. buggy ziggy

Hi Ant, You offered to help so here are a few questions I have. 1 This scope shows many of the fibers a irredescent blue and on my handheld lighted 100x scope they look black. Do you know which is accurate? 2 Do you know of a way to stabilize the scope while looking at objects on the skin? 3 Is there a way to mark the photos identifying the power of the lens? 4 Is there a web site to explain how to post the pictures? 5 Is it better to put samples on a white background or on the blurry plastic that covers the light? 6 Should you always have the top and bottom lights on? As you can probably tell I'm not very familiar with microscopes or computors but I'm trying to learn. If I could just get the cobwebs out of my brain. Basically I can turn it on, search the web, and get and send e-mail. I just got this dell notebook a couple of months a go. It has windows XP with a CD burner, media player, and alot of other stuff I don't understand. Please don't use any abbreviations because I haven't learned them. Thanks for offering to help me. At least I won't have to see the look on your face when I have that dumb founded look on mine. Just kidding. My son's have tried to help me and they get amused at how little I know. I am ahead of my husband though. He doesn't even know how to turn one on.

Hi susiebelle 1 This scope shows many of the fibers a irredescent blue and on my handheld lighted 100x scope they look black. Do you know which is accurate? It probably has something to do with the clear blue plastic that the Qx5 is made of so the actual color is probably black
2 Do you know of a way to stabilize the scope while looking at objects on the skin? If you set the scope right down on the skin and then angle it back to focus ---that stabilizes it OK at 10x at60x --More of a challenge 200x next to impossible I was just recently thinking that attaching the QX to one of those extending scissor lights that they use over drafting tables would do the trick Quite well" at all powers as a matter of fact I probably will try it soon
3 Is there a way to mark the photos identifying the power of the lens? Yes some where on your control panel in your paint tools mode of your Qx there is a big A ---that is your button that will ad text to your picture don't be afraid to click on stuff and see what it does" the microscope is made as a toy for kids so you cant mess anything up
4 Is there a web site to explain how to post the pictures? first of all you need to find the export button on your QX control panel and export the QX pictures that you intend to post to the web out of your QX software to your document folder or picture folder on your XP software
When you click on the export button a window should come up asking you what folder you want to export to
At the top of the window there is a drop down menu that you can click on to pick what folder you want to export to
at the bottom of the window there is a place that you can name your photo (example: bug60x)( don't use spaces in between the letters) below that is a drop down menu that you can pick the picture format JPEG or JPG is good for your purposes
The next step is to upload your picture to a web sever or website To upload to a website like the one that I mentioned below after you have signed up click on the photo section of the control panel of your new website
You Will see an upload button click on that and a window will come up that looks just the same as the one when you exported from QX pick the folder that you want to upload from and and pick the picture by the name that you gave it and click on it Then click on open then on your website controls click on upload this picture and the picture will be in put in your gallery then all you have to do to show your pictures you just have to paste your URL here's mine www.trillybillers.zoomshare.com/1.shtml
Now if you just want to show a few pictures in your post on lymebusters you follow the same procedure of exporting the QX pictures that you intend to post to the web out of your QX software to your document folder or picture folder on your XP software and follow the directions below This you don't have to sign up for and it is free also just upload your picture
upload your picture here www.picturehost.co.uk/ or here www.simpload.com/ click on the browse button The host will give you a URL-- copy URL and --paste it on your post On the lymebusters control panel you will find a button that looks like a framed picture That button will put down a UBB code tag that looks like this {img][/img] put the URL of your picture between the two sections of the code tag like this {img] http://your picture URL here [/img] or like this: {img] http://your picture URL here [/img] this is the result press the preview button to see if it works and if it does then post your message for free website with a cool gallery go here www.zoomshare.com/ and click on where it says: (Click to build your free web site now! ) and then follow the instructions the website has a easy to use website wizard to help you set every thing up there is no way you can mess it up and if you just happen to you can start all over and try again so I hope that takes some presser off On zoomshare you get a blog a homepage a link page it kind skimpy as far as free websites are concerned but it's got one of the most a excellent picture gallery's I have seen for free its got those thumbnails that you can click on to make them bigger How To Publish Pictures to the Internet in Windows XP this is confusing to me thats why I spelled it all out support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;2912525 Is it better to put samples on a white background or on the blurry plastic that covers the light? in your slide on the blurry background
6 Should you always have the top and bottom lights on? Depending on the level of light you use you can get different contrast on your specimen an see different things you should have some kind of adjustment where you can tweak your light level the bottem is for back lighting for thin specamin an of course the top is for top lighting which is used for looking at stuff you cant see through but you can use both at the same time and get differnt effects On 200x and 60x if you use an exterior light source like a bright desk lamp you can get some really detailed pictures careful if it is a hot light bulb that you are using not to get it to close to your microscope because you will melt the plastic I hope ths helps let me know if you need any mor helps --ant

Regarding the thread colors, I have both blue and black; and pink and green and red and white and transluent. The black seem to be the least active of the group.

I just wanted to say that I am using one of those kids microscope and they work better then the more expensive ones. I paid one penny on ebay plus 14.99 s&h. it has a light on it and it is X100-X300 and X600. just basic but man you should see the pictures that I got from it- if anyone is interrested in seeing the pictures just email me and I will share. But beware they are pretty scary looking bugs.
