A friend of mine called me today. Her doctor is Dr. Crist. He'd gone to a meeting, and "a doctor there" had mentioned for lyme patients he treats them with HLC and the HCL activator, "high" doses 3X a day.
Now what my friend read me off the "paper" she had a copy of which was 15 Betaine hydrochloride pills (3X a day) and the HCL activator...and her doctor told her that the "other" doctor said that he's seen remarkable improvement in "some".
So, I don't know about doing those high of doses, but I think I'll try the supplements.
Quantum Labs sells both.
HCL (Betaine Hydrochloride acid) and the (HCL activator) must be taken together I was told.
Remember this is "NOT" hydrochloride acid, that is DEADLY.
It's (((Betaine hydrochloride)).
I'm going to check it out.
She said also, which I've heard from some people that she's put on weight, but it's different, meaning it's not "fat" it's more like a buildup of odd feeling tissue.
Her doctor said it's the body adding that on to try and absorb the toxins in her system...which who knows...but, sort of makes sense.
Had someone posted about this before?

Years ago, I took HCL.
I read about apple cidar vinegar and honey, so I tried it. There is a synergy between the ACV and the honey -- its been decades since then, but if I remember correctly it had something to do with Potassium
1 Tb. of each in an 8 oz. glass of water with meals or alone, which ever works best for your routine.
Your body needs Calcium/Magnesium to produce HCL and it needs HCL to utilize Calcium/Magnesium - so it can be a vicious cycle like I was in in my mid 20's.
After a year of the HCL -- when I switched to the ACV and honey -- after just 6 weeks, I was fine.

I just modified this thread..
Here's the letter from Dr. Crist regarding lyme and this product.
BETAINE HCL PROTOCOL At a medical meeting in the fall of 2006, one of the doctors that lectured claimed he had cured over one hundred borreliosis patients with high doses of hydrochloric acid. Currently I am skeptical. But over the last eighteen years there have been other treatment claims of which 1 was skeptical, that turned out to be very effective. Plus this is a pretty strong claim, and it would be unlikely to be stated at a medical conference, unless patients had responded to this treatment. So I am anxious to have some of my patients try the treatment and give me feedback. It may turn out that this is of zero value, but I anticipate some people will get better. The good news is that if this betaine HCL protocol cures you. it has been claimed the cure occurs within thirty days. In other words you should not have to wait a long time to get your answer, if this claim is truth. Hydrochloric acid (HCL) is made in the human stomach to help digest food. Some doctors are of the opinion many Americans do not produce enough HCL. Or a lot of people drink large quantities of beverages when they eat, which dilutes the HCL and causes poor digestion of foods. Doctors have given HCL to patients for heartburn or gastritis. This seems like a contradiction. The theory is that conditions like heartburn are due to lactic acid from poorly digested food, not from too much hydrochloric acid. Betaine HCL is from beets. So the hydrochloric acid is from "live source "or"natural" beets. Large doses of "Quantum Betaine HC1" are needed for the borreliosis protocol. Fifteen capsules three times a day, with food, are required for thirty days. The betaine hydrochloric acid has to be "activated", by the "Quantum HCL Activator", which is a natural source of potassium. There are nine ingredients in the activator. Three capsules three times a day with meals are required, for thirty days. Those of you that want to try this protocol, after you do try please call the office and give me feedback if it helped. If this claim of cures is true, this could be a significant additional treatment for borreliosis. Charles L. Crist, M.D. P.O. Box B 1824 S, Lone Pine Avenue • Suite C Springfield, Missouri 6S808

Many people lose the ability to produce hydrochloric acid in the stomach as they age. Called "hypochlorhydria". This prevents proper breakdown of proteins and can lead to food allergies. Thanks, life, for the Mg/Ca acid relationship. Most Lymies are deficient in Mg. Also shows that scam on TV, that taking TUMS or some calcium containing antacid to get your calcium is totally wrong. To absorb Ca you have to have an acid stomach.
Many people think they have an acid stomach when they have a deficiency of other pancreatic enzymes. I think a person should get tested for low stomach acid before starting a Betane HCl supplement. But in any event, you will soon see if adding the Betane HCl before you eat is what you need. If you don't need it, you will throw up all over.
Usually people with "O" blood-type do not need extra HCl, they have very acid digestion.

toni, Don't let me disuade you. My Dad got a lot of help from this for food allergies. However, he got a special test to check that his acid was low. I think he was around age 70when he had this done.
I would say, start small.
