OH Joy today was my annual GYN appt ;D I jus luv putting my feet in them stirrups , i look foward to it all year ;D Anyways Ive talked about it before but they have a new machine now that sucks cells from your breasts and they can tell right away after 5 minuts if its abnormal or not. The machine hurts a little but nothing like a mamogram and its supposed to be more accurate. It has 2 suctions that attach to each breast , it feels as if your being pinched but not too painful. My insurance didnt cover it.......95 dollars is what I paid My test was normal Its called a breast pap

Hey Friski - Congratulations on your results . A few questions so I can understand this new breast sucking device a bit more . Hmm.... suck the cells out of your breasts ? Does this actually cause a suction so strong that it pulls liquidish stuff from the nipple ? I mean, Is the suction just sort of abrading the skin and getting cells that way or is it sucking something from the inside mammary/lymph gland area via the nipple ? I have avoided the neandrathal mammogram for 3 reasons. One is that Xrays casue DNA damage known to cause cancer. Two, it only gets on the film what it can squish in the plates - leaving the periphery where breast cancer occurs more, not in the image. Three, if you have cancer, squishing the hell out of the breasts is a way to cause spread of those cells into the blood stream and lymph system. Duhhh !! So I am wondering how bad the pinching/squooshing is ? Is it only squeezing/sucking the nipple ? Sounds interesting - just hope it is not doing the same possible spreading thing as mammos. Thanks !

Your so right Banannas my brain pap would come back as "fried " or toast! :LOL ;D Good questions Liatris. The machine actually sucks on the nipples and sucks from the glands as you suggested . One of the reasons mine was normal because no liquid was found. The sucking is quite similar to breast feeding they told me . Ive never had kids so I wouldnt know. Also one thing i forgot was i found it painful but tolerable some women find it quite painful and others have NO pain at all ! So i guess we are all different as far as pain threshold goes. I didnt find it invasive at all ........no different than well i better not say ;D I would recommend it over mamogram any day!! i quit having mamograms years ago i felt the same way you do about them.

Hey, Friski, Thanks for the answers. Ok - the degree of sucking is not much different than ... . And no liquid is a good thing. Sounds like a good alternative. After reading you post initially, I called a friend and she asked a good question - Is what they find in the sample they collect representative of the whole breast ? Like when they take a needle biopsy (as insane as mammos for spreading cells from a potential tumor) they have to pierce the area where there is cancer to find it - they could not check one part of the breast and expect it to represent another part of the breast. Maybe the stuff from the nipple is representative of the whole breast. I would imagine it would have to be for this approach to be valid. I guess I should google it and learn that way or I could have you here answering my questions for years ! But if you know the answer to that one, please let me know. Thanks again, Friski.

Thanks for the video link. Heh, looks like a little daisy flower whose petals close on the breasts ! Cute design ! They said in it that it still does not replace the yearly mammogram - for me it would . Thanks, again.

your welcome Liatris I thought the machine was very pretty and feminine too, the one Ive seen is a pretty violet color Not true that its painless though , they told me on a scale of 1 to 10 its about a 3 . I would say a 4 but nothing to unbearable. I see no reason to get mamograms anymore either! One morething I wanted to say since were talking about breast cancer is i met a woman many years ago who wrote a book on it and said one of the best preventatives is getting breast massage, or you can do it yourself ;D Because there are major lymph nodes in the breasts toxins can build up and massage helps move the toxins out plus it feels good ;D

See, if our wives didn't always have a headache they wouldn't be coming down with breast cancer /sarcasm
