Hello all,
Thinking about getting an ozone generator.
I'd really appreciate your thoughts, suggestions, etc., on this subject.
Is it worth getting? Does it help? How do you use it? Any model you recommend?
Very appreciative for your comments.

Had two in my house early days, can't say it did anything to help this, just made my house smell like a hospital. I got rid of them rather quickly.

I have done A LOT of research and have had a lot of experience with ozone generating systems for medical use and know about air cleaning. The problem with air cleaning systems is that they generate the ozone using room air which is about 80% nitrogen and only about 20% oxygen. Ozone is supposed to be made by sparking OXYGEN into a certain amount of ozone. When you expose nitrogen gas to this "sparking" process you create TOXIC Nitrogen Oxides and some ozone. The former is not good to breath.
You also have to have some fans around to move the ozone away from the generator and around to the rest of the room. It does not remain at a high enough concentration of ozone for long enough if you do not move it quickly. Most companies could not even tell you what concentration is even being produced, never mind what it will be when it reaches the other side of the room. Breathing high concentrations of ozone are also not good and that is problematic if they cannot tell you what the output is.
One definitely good thing to do is to get rid of your rugs and carpets or cover them with non-outgassing plastic and that will help a lot with air quality - they are a breeding ground for all sorts of mites, insects, parasites anyway.

Jose this is off-topic but I wanted to get this info to you again. If J has not tries using Vick's Vaporub topically to get rid of her critters, I would strongly suggest that she should. It got rid of the critters infesting my face six years ago and I haven't seen or felt another one since. Check Toni's thread "It's alive, It's got cells!" From pictures that you posted here, KJ'S critters look to be marine parasites, no matter, they will still not be able to withstand the camphor and menthol in Vick's. John(jwf) on the board uses menthol crystals in diffusers placed around his home, Good idea to keep the vermin out of the house in a southern climate and not toxic like those bug spray dispensers are. Take it for what it's worth, I am trying to offer help, and hope you can hear that. PM me here if you have any questions.

Jose, I honestly don't know a lot about Ozone units, but I believe Liatris knows what she's talking about.
My poor husband shelled out $1,200 for two Alpine Living Air units, $600 each. He did it for me of course, and they did absolutely NOTHING and were a total horror to keep clean. Filters had to be taken out frequently which in itself is a monumental task. Seems like the red warning light was always on. I actually kind of liked the smell as it reminded me of a lightning strike and I love the sights and sounds of a major thunder storm.
Total waste of money in my opinion.

Hi Jose,
I sold negative ion generators a while back and now have a Sharp air cleaner with a built in negative ion generator. Negative ions are the ones good for humans and animals.
Most evidence indicates that ozone is not good for humans. Some ozonators will have a setting where you set it to blast your room or house and kill all the little critters- but you must remove yourself while that is going on. Then you can set it to generate negative ions and return to a nice peaceful environment.
Justhanginin mentioned the real lifesaver for your home environment (for us). Just put pure menthol (naturally derived) crystals in small sachets and put them around your home or car or motel room when traveling. We never have an itchy time anywhere, anymore.
Or you can buy a little electronic diffuser with a steel insert and just drop the crystals on that. A few hours a day for three days will debug anything we've en- countered. Most folks don't know that menthol kills mites- it's used to protect honeybees.

I want to thank everyone for your comments on the whole ozone thing. Thus far, I'm not getting a very positive picture of these generators. Maybe I ought to wait and do more research before spending more money (unecessarily). I sure don't want to add anything toxic to our home environment. As to the menthol suggestions: Absolutely YES. For quite a while we've been putting mentol crystals on plug-in type warmers in various rooms of our house. We get the crystals from www.mountainroseherbs.com at $34.00 per pound. These are the absolute best. We've also recently started making little sachets of menthol pellets (these are specially designed to kill off mites in beehives) from www.mannlakeltd.com at $17.60 per pound. So, thanks jwf and justhanginin for your good reminder.

The information at the link suggests ozone can be very beneficial but just having anozone generator in a room may not be the best way to go about using it. Ozone kills molds fungus and other pathogens.
The information suggested various ways of using ozone, ear suflation, taking an ozone "shower" and absorbing it through the skin, drinking ozonated water or using ozonated olive oil . The ozonated olive oil was said to be very beneficial for hard to heal skin lesions.
"All cold plasma ozone generators can easily produce high quality Ozonated Water, which can be ingested as often as desired. The effects of drinking ozonated water on a regular basis can be very healthful. People with serious disease conditions will notice more-pronounced effects in a shorter space of time than those who are in good health, but the benefits of ozonated water are realized by all who use it, whether you have a serious health concern or not. The ozone from the ozonated water passes into the bloodstream via the stomach/small intestines and provides the benefits of ozone without the need for expensive equipment. Some people notice a very slight sensation of light headedness the first time they drink ozone water. It's temporary and usually only happens the first time- if at all. The reaction is due to slightly more oxygen reaching the brain than normal. Ingested daily, ozone water will progressively send ozone into deeper tissues of the body, oxidizing non organic drug residues and hidden, dormant pathogens. You might be surprised to learn that the virus that gave you chicken pox as a child or herpes as a young adult is still hidden deep within the body such as in the nerve ganglion at the base of the spine. Your immune system developed antibodies which normally hold these residual bugs in check, but that doesn't mean that the bugs are gone, as any person who suffers recurrent bouts of herpes will attest. But if you hit them long enough and hard enough with ozone (or certain other alternative therapies), they will be gone-for good."
I'm thinking of trying ozone. Sounds very promising if used in water, olive oil or applied directly to the skin.
