Hello All! I was under the impression I had Morgellons only, and when I finally found a Dr. to help me and he requested a Lyme's Test from Igenex, was very surprised when it came back showing I have it. He has changed meds, and informed me that it might be rough with the new ones...that I might be having a Herxheimer reaction. Now, on the Morgellon's board I had seen things written about herxing, but no one went into detail...just said it was awful. Please, if there is anyone who has gone through this please give me details. I live alone and I have to know what to expect and what would be grounds for going ti the emergency room My Lyme doctor is in anther state, and I have none here that would acknowledge what I have, OR for that matter, refused to give me a lyme test at my request.....I figured that would be a start. Thank you for your help! Audrey

I read some people get depressed and tired. My personal experiences were that when I first took oil of oregano I almost fell over, then I got to a point where I was taking 10+ drops per day and it didn't affect me except it heats the digestive system and you need to also supplement with probiotics. From what I understand, herxing is when you kill off such a large amount of bacteria or yeast that a toxin is produced that can overload your liver, so any liver type damage symptoms...I think people can mistake it for allergy but true allergy would be different. I think I had herximer symptoms the first time I took Bactrim for a bladder infection, and it killed the Morgellons which I did not know about or was expecting. Later I have taken Bactrim same dose without those effects. I was nauseated, headache, total fatigue, felt BAD, like the flu but not flu symptoms. I would research true allergy symptoms to include, rash, immediate swelling of the throat, any new or fast problems breathing, severe chest pain, major BP changes or shock to be reasons to head to the ER. Good news is that ER may not know Morgellons or Lymes as well, but knows allergy very well. Anytime I try a new med, I eat half of it, wait 1/2 hour and eat the rest. If it is not going to sit well with me, I will know in 15 mins. probably. Be alert to your body and if you are worried, go to a pharmacy and tell them you are taking a new med and sit and read a magazine while you wait to see if you are going to have a reaction. It is rare, but can happen. I have done this myself once and after a half an hour went by I drove home. Also, you could make a little medical registration card for yourself and put it in purse, stating that you have Lymes and the number of your doctor and current meds you are taking. Put this in your wallet. Also, you can take meds with you in your purse, should something happen that will be something medical personnel check if you are unconscious. You can also go to any docs waiting room, and let staff know you are trying new med. Again, should something go awry, there will be personnel there. I never really thought about this stuff before someone in my town took a new med and on the way home lost consciousness and hit another car. He should have stayed at his docs office while the med took effect, but he didn't know obviously. Call a friend over if nothing else and let her know what you are doing. Hope this helps.

I believe you need to be tested for co infections as well. The more co infections.. or the worse they are.. the worse the herx will be. I had a very high load of babesia and went into a horrible herx from that. What it is.. is like an amplification of the symptoms you already have.. More intense aches, pain, spasms.. fevers.. dizziness..depression etc.. Since I got rid of the babesia I have had plain Lyme herx as well..my fever goes up a bit.. kind of feels like the flu.. really tired.. but for me personally, not nearly as bad as the babesia herx.. Keep in mind.. in order to get well from Lyme.. you must be treated for the co infections. Many co infections can be treated at the same time as the Lyme.. like many of the same meds will zap both.. But babesia is different.. you need different meds for that. Suggest a babesia test if you havent already been tested.. you need to get rid of this first if you have it in order to get better..
And I also carried around a note in my purse saying "I am on antibiotic treatment for babesia and 3rd stage Lyme.. if anything should happen call my Lyme Dr.." and I wrote the name and phone number..
Better to be safe than sorry..

Kerry and KB..hank you so much for the info. I have been having a hard time getting a Dr., as soon as I mention Morgellons symptoms, they show how they feel about me....dop. o I went out of state to a lyme specialist, and when I was there was tested by a regular md for other symptoms. She put me on blood pressure meds.....never had high blood pressure until now. Anyway, she told me to have a local Dr. monitor it to see if the dosage is right.
I have made an appointment, but will not tell the Dr. about Morgellons. I think the Drs. around here accept Lyme disease although they refused to get a Lyme test for me. Anyway, if I get into trouble, will go to the MD and claim I am being treated for Lyme, and I am having a reaction.
At least now I know what I should look for, and I thank you.
