I have found this week, after I took some old Lodine I had from 2002, that it did not just help my pain, which was acute, it seems that it helped my brain.
I'm wondering if the brain fog, atleast in my case is inflammation as in LE.. can't speel iit.. Lyme Encephalitis?
Anyway, anybody have this, anybody use potent anti-inflammatories, or have any comment on my question?
I mean my brain feels mega-ton better!

I had to look up the drug interactions on this one, Spec, because I couldn't remember why my doctor wouldn't let me take it, other than it is a NSAID (I can't even take aspirin or Advil). Now I remember..... Of course people with ulcers shouldn't take it, plus those who smoke and/or have colitis, lupus, or dental problems (with surgery in their future) need to be cautious. Also those with high blood pressure, diabetes, and asthma should be careful with it. Even garlic, ginger, feverfew, or ginkgo biloba could interact as they also serve as blood thinners (thus increasing that effect of the drug). I think most of these precautions are fairly minor unless one is taking blood thinners, which might cause a much larger problem. But to answer your question, I think you are right on about it's anti-inflammatory properties. Even with just high-dose garlic, I felt my brain swelling going down and my head became much more clear so no doubt this drug would help even more with inflammation problems. As our blood becomes thicker, the vessels tend to expand, causing that fullness feeling in our heads. I have even thought that not enough blood was getting to my brain due to the thickness of it, but I can't say this is true positively. For some reason my LE now only comes in cycles (just like everything else we all seem to have), but there was a time when I thought my head was going to explode from the swelling. As a trade-off, I am finding it harder to think clearly with each day now but at least my head isn't "screaming" anymore. I'm so glad your brain is not so foggy now, that's such a horrible symptom and maybe you could get another prescription for the Lodine to keep that inflammation down. Every symptom that we can alleviate makes it that much easier to handle all the other garbage that afflicts us. I sure hope this good feeling continues for you!

What a description! Thanks so much for the informative post. This has been very helpful to my understanding. When I read about Lyme and what all to do for it, I about want to give up! so you spared me... I may give that high-dose garlic a try since you think it may be helping you with the inflammation. Garlic makes me itch sometimes and don't want to, so even though it might be great.. I don't indulge. Everything is a trade off I guess. I do feel like it is helping me concentrate and perceive much more clearly what is happening in the classroom. For instance, not so anxious because I always feel like the words and concepts are slipping away before I can even register. I don't feel like I'm being bombarded or shelled as much, but then the professors this semester are really good too. I will post again if this continues to help or not in this respect. The trade off is now I am so sleepy! But I think side effects like this sometimes tone down after awhile. I think Lodine is one of those things that can be addictive, it seems to me some of our patients at the doctors office had to go to rehab and dry out because they were just after it, but it is not a narcotic so I don't understand. Maybe it is not addictive. i don't know if long term use is a good idea or not, and if the effects "wear down" so you have to keep upping the dose.. Too bad about the ulcer conflict, maybe it will go away when you get proper treatment for this.. Did anthills thread on Peru Balsam indicate taking it orally would kill the... h. pylori is that what it is called? I think it did! I don't know if it is the inflammation or not, but I think I am just getting stupider by the year! big downward spiral.. Thanks again, Patti, you are always a great help with good info and good cheer spec hmm.
