Hello Everyone, Through Charlie's treatment, a year now in May, he has had problems with lack of bowel control. Urine he is OK, but he can't control his bowels. We have thrown away 2 pack of new underwear this week. He is very Selfcontaious (sp?) about it. I believe it is something neuro, what do some of you other parent's think? Like everything else here lately, all our symptoms are getting worse, spring I guess. He has never been this bad before. He is doing very well in all other area's except some anger outburst when he is so hungry at school, we can't get him to eat in the am before school. Any advice would be appreciated, just someone else who has experienced this. Alway, ebgb

I don't have experience with this as a parent Glenda, but gee I feel so badly for your Charlie......no wonder he doesn't want to eat before school.
This is probably totally irrelevant but I remember my nephew was the exact same way, only he got reprimanded for it and was forced to eat or he couldn't get up from the table. I felt so sorry for him! He had a lot of nervous problems and initially was diagnosed ADHD but now he is fine (and living on his own). I just wonder if it's maybe a combo of the drugs plus all the stress he is going through?
I sure hope others can give you a little insight about this.....hang tight and I'm sure someone will come along soon. Best of luck to you and Charlie......guess you better not tell him you discussed this with us but you know we're sending prayers his way.
Love, Patti

Hi Glenda.. Yes.. and not just with children. I have many who have bowel problems with Lyme.. either loose bowels or constipation...seems to be an ongoing problem for many, yet not everyone. And not just with bowels.. also with urinary problems.. My feelings here is this.. It has to do with the muscles in general being affected... as you know.. Lyme can hit ones muscles anywhere in the body. Even the muscles you dont even think of that have to do with the bowels or urinary tract.. Many, just like with loose stools also have the same with leaking of urine... or moreso.. having to go and not being able to hold it.. I also have others who always feel like they have to go.. and yet have to push hard to get it out..
The muscles have a tendency to go into spasm and not come out.. or on the other hand.. lose control and not hold in the way they are supposed to.
Yes.. it is neurological I think just as much to do with Lyme is.. The idea tho is moreso of where it is hitting him and what can be done to control the muscles so they work..
Is he taking magnesium everyday without fail? That may help with the muscles in both scenarios.. I can imagine this is quite hard for him... I went the other way in the beginning and was just plain constipated...plus even to get rid of urine I really had to push.. I always say better out than in... but he has to go to school and Im sure doesnt feel this way..
On the other hand.. if this is something new, it could just be the meds too...
Trial and error Glenda... Make sure he is taking Magnesium along with coral calcium to rule out muscle problems...
Always remember that Lyme depletes the body of Magnesium.. and by doing that... it takes from the calcium in the body as well.. So they must be put back in.. If its not that.. look at his list of meds and research each abx with his problem and discuss a change with his Doctor...
Much love and luck to you both Kerry

Patti and Kerry, Thanks so much for the advise. Kerry he isn't on magnesium so I will defiantly call the doc on Monday. He gets so tired of taking the meds, as we all do, but I just keep reassuring him and having "prizes" for him when he finishes taking them. He often will throw them, in the trash, I just have to get more and he see's that we won't give up. He has been on a laxative for quite some time, it doesn't even make him regular all the time. I know he has anxiety too, since he has morgellons and often wonder's whet the heck is going on. He hears sounds, popping whatever and also has floater's in his eye's. I have to get his hair cut this wk.end as he is have the moving hair and is being bothered by that. I appreciate your prayer's too, and I will be praying for U two also. Always Glenda

If he has Lyme, watch him with the magnesium as he will probably herx on it. Also, if he's been on laxatives for a long time, those muscles tend to get lazy and eventually he won't be able to ever go without one. Did his doctor prescribe regular use of laxatives? This is a little strange and depending on how long hes been using them, they ironicaly could be causing the problem. Sending good thouhts, god bless, angie

Thanks Angie, I was wondering about that, I know that the use of laxatives isn't good long term and he has been on it for at least 7 months. He has such a constipation problem though, it seems to be you can't win for loosing. I will talk to the doc about that too, and I remember now that when I first started the Magnesium I herxed, so thanks for reminding me. Take care. Always, ebgb

Castor oil all over the stomach will move you. Vicks rubbed over the stomach will too. Have you tried popcorn? Or mini-wheats cereal? High fiber foods will help, and peppermint tea even just a cup, you could brew it then chill it for him.
