Hi all -
It's been a looong time since I've been here - staying busy trying to stay alive. You all know that excuse, right?
This week, a short, but highly inaccurate article about Lyme disease appeared on the online Newsweek e-zine at: www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13249565/site/newsweek/.
((Sorry that's a long URL - my computer is screwed up and locks up when I do certain things...it's a mystery, but I couldn't get this to be a tiny URL as requested!))
There is a place for readers to rate the article, and to the right there is a place which indicates whether bloggers have pointed to this article in their blogs.
SO...this of course motivated me to finally update my blog again, and I spent the better part of several pages taking apart this rather crappy article.
If you would - go back to the website where the article appears: www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13249565/site/newsweek/
Then on the right where is says "Blog Talk", it will say "1 blog discussing" this article - click on that link where it will take you to a brief excerpt of my blog entry, and then click on my title "Teaching New Dogs Old Tricks" from there.
I'm suggesting that you access my blog in this manner this time because no doubt Newsweek has software that will keep track of the attention that each article receives through their rating system and by the number of blogs, and the interest in it - they will keep track of how many people navigate away from the Newsweek site to read the blog entries.
If my blog has any factual errors, please email me and let me know. BUT if you would - PLEASE please leave some kind of comment at the bottom of the blog entry, in the off chance that any one from Newsweek or other journalists take the time to read my garbage.
I just think that when a blog has comments at the bottom, even if brief, it indicates reader interest. Just an idea.
And in fact - you don't even have to like me or my writing style. You can openly disagree with me if you like - I don't care. Just want to get the numbers & comments up to show interest in this very important subject matter!
FYI - You have to read through or scroll past my little dog stories which are at the beginning of the blog entry to get to where I take the article apart sentence by sentence. The dog stuff is in there because it's part of the stupid crap I write about AND becasue I was shooting for a METAPHOR - comparing the education of my dogs, to trying to re-educate the media to GET ALL THE FACTS (an old journalism "trick") before publishing an article!
Also - there is a place at the Newsweek article to give your opinion to the editors....so this is your chance to call attention to whatever you want!
In fact, if any of you have blogs of your own - I encourage you to blog about the article and then using the Technorati tool (must add it to your blog) ping your blog so Technorati will scroll it, and then it will notify the Newsweek software & add you to the "blogs discussing" list.
If other bloggers join me - PLEASE do the same for them.
Note -- you don't have to go to the trouble of reading all of my drivel to do this. I know I may not be everyone's cup of tea. Just the point of NAVIGATING from Newsweek TO my blog (& others) is the important thing. And feel free to do that several times. (not all at once, mind you as your IP address may show up right next to itself in a list and make it obvious what you were doing)
I appreciate any help you can give with this.
Thanks in advance for spreading the word!
Hugs & Kisses,
DR Wiseass
