For a real treat add coconut milk instead of cream to you coffee. Its so good. I like it iced especially. It contains a ton of fat and calories so its not good if your watching your weight. Buy the organic kind so it wont have sulfates added :-*Frisky

Sounds great Frisky!
I add some coconut oil, cinnamon and vanilla extract to cocoa. There are some tasty benefits for using the powerhouse coconut ingredient.
Thank goodness for silver linings.

Wow ,that sounds good! I love the coconut oil also and add it to yogurt and then add shredded coconut but you have to get the unsweetened kind at the health food store. One time I ate to much coconut oil and got sick later that evening so moderation is good! :-*Frisk

It has that just little bit of sweetness, apparently without sugar... so would help the unsweetened yogurt stay potent I would think. I made some eggs with coconut oil in the frying pan, I'm no chef, simply an occassional short-order cook, but I know they add sugar to the egg mixtures in fancy omelettes. Did make for a good flavor. Anyway, it seems to be a good tasty oil for pan-frying. and great applied to the skin (settle down )as moisturizer. Funny the day you posted this, (two minds with a single thought...) I was thinking we should try to encourage more interaction like this (like recipes that work for us), since we do get a little down-in-the mouth over some other aspects on the morgellons board. and selfishly, also since I am one who can use the simple ideas like these when it comes to the kitchen. I find it hard to be interested in food these days. Never really had too much interest to begin with! Then my sons moved out. Now I really have little interest.. since I'm not one to really care in the first place. So, hey.. are there more culinary tips out there? spec

Spec I was wondering if they say its ok to heat coconut oil because they say most oils get rancid when you heat them. For those of you that dont know coconut is anti candida as well as anti parasitical. I should add that if I drink too much coconut milk it gives me a headache . Im not much of a cook either but I do make sure I cook a huge amount of vegetables everyday. Some days that I dont feel.like cooking I eat granny smith apples and munch on nuts. The granny smith arent saposed to mess with your blood sugar a diabetic friend told me. For some reason if I use the oil on my hair and scalp it reduces the itching and if i use it on my skin it feels more crawly. Havent used it anywhere eles ye ;D :-*Friskt

Now I really have little interest.. since I'm not one to really care in the first place. So, hey.. are there more culinary tips out there? spec I've never been a good cook. Basically, I get bored standing at a stove, so I walk away and do other stuff. I always MEAN to go back to stir, but often end up hearing the smoke alarm go off, have to open the doors and turn on fans. Then, everyone knows that "dinner's ready!" Cooking healthy has been, therefore, extra challenging. I have found that a bunch of organic eggs with a little golden flax meal and bit of creamer stirred up make for great crepes. Make those in real butter in one pan. Meanwhile, in another pan fry bananas in real butter. Let them carmelize. (sp?) When done, serve the crepes with the bananas. I'm still experimenting on when to add the flax oil for more healthy stuff - I'm not sure if it is best during or after cooking. (Not too much) ========= If you have two people, cut a lemon in half, squeeze each half in a drinking glass. Add water (I use filtered) and if you are drinking aloe vera, you can add that in too. Leave about an inch or two at the top. In that space left add in pomegranate juice or some berry juice. Makes for a refreshing drink. =========== This one didn't work: I tried to substitute goat milk yogurt as a dairy product in pancakes. That was nasty! ========= Goat Milk Yogurt is very good for you. But it needs something. I have found it to be good with a lot of minced garlic and celtic mineral salt added to it. You can add it as flavorful topping to certain dishes. ========== I'm still having fun experimenting with smoothies. The Mercola website's Whey has been good to work with - and plain yogurt and organic berries and juices - and bananas and coconut milk and, one tray of ice all together in a blender. Lots of possibilities with smoothies. QH

Hi Frisk, I have read (on a label) that the temperature to heat some cold-pressed oil should not go over 400 degrees, this is the point at which the fact that it was cold-pressed virgin oil (of some sort) is defeated. If you are going to spend the extra money for the virgin coconut oil, that is better for your other purposes, and to go ahead and buy the lesser grade if you plan to say, fry chicken, and will be using a pretty high heat and a fair quantity. I imagine the same would go for baking at temperatures less than 400 degrees. I can't remember which of the oils contained that info, the exact temperature might be different for different virgin cold-pressed oils. As far as "rancid" goes.. I don't know if they are using the right term, I believe if you leave fats out at a wrong temperature, say meat or pasteurized butter, it does go rancid and you will be sick from it. You know, some others surely remember scenes such as this, my grandmother use to churn her own butter on the farm. It was always soft and sitting on her big farm table. I remember being amazed that it did not have to be refrigerated (because it hadn't been commercially processed). This is all I know about that concern, ms. frisk, but I will bet after reading about my grandmothers fresh-churned butter, the visions of yummy-fresh-creamy-butter churned in your head! By the way, she always had about 7 or 8 cats around the place, and I remember as old and tired as she was, she always handled them so sweetly. You could tell how much she respected and cared for animals, even though on the farm, they of course also raised sheep and chickens for food. I taught my sons to never toss our kitties down, in memory of her kindness toward animals, I told them to just set them down gently, feet to the ground after carrying or petting them, and they will know you love them lots, just like my Grandma's cats. Just a little kitty story. Oh and QH! Sounds like you and I are cut out of the same flour sack cloth. Since my Lyme got really bad last year i burned 3 pots up, let all the water dry up and burned boiling eggs until the shells popped like popcorn.. SAD BUT TRUE. Some appliances like a stove I simply cannot be trusted with. I wonder how much trouble I can get myself into with a blender.. hmm.. well you have given me some tempting ideas to get myself in trouble with.. oh gosh, one does involve TWO frying pans at once.. Keep those tasty- good for you recipes coming guys.. we need to pick up the morale around here and in ourselves, as much as possible! spec

Thanks for the kitty cat story Spec! Dogs are my favorite but of course I love kitties too. I especially love when they purr and knead you like you would bread dough! Apparently it is ok to heat coconut oil like you say. Ive never tried it. I do know that flax oil should never be heated and it should also be kept refridgerated. I guess all the oils are a little different. :-*Frisk

for me cffe is a laxitive on its own and fats in coconut products are good for you in general fat dont make you fat sugar does not that im an expert but iam a fitness trainer/pilates/yoga teacher/weight management coach/massage therapist with only 10% body fat but some one wrote in a post some where about sweet body fat-- and some how that made scence to me when looking at where my worst and presistant lessions were--thighs belly ears face arms where the layers of fat under the skin are thin but neccasary to body function where fat may hold the carbs/sugar/glycuse for energy storage
well ay way i want to buy a round of coconut drinks for every one put it on my tab im going to make a nice batch of cats claw grean tea with sarsaparilli and coconut milk and drink it all down before bedy tedy time
