Hey Guys, happy holidays! im wondering if anyone could tell me the good and bad experiences with any health insurance companys. I got mad and canceled my insurance ive had for 20 plus years, blue cross witch is now Anthem. First they rasied my insurance by 100 per month after turning 50, that was bad enough. Im so pssed off with them ! i pay 100 percent out of pocket and they raised a cheaper plan I was going to take by 100 per month because i "take doxepin for insomnia " in there exact words. All the thousands of dollars Ive paid to them and never not once used it because I carry a high deductable to keep the rates down and not once met my deductable for the year. Sorry for the rant im still processing my anger anyway Im considering Atnea or gasp even Kaiser .Ive actually heard many good things about Kaiser lately where as 15 years ago they were the very worst. any help or feed back is appreciated!

Hey Friskers! I'm sorry that's happened. I'm sure you could chew them up about now, and I'd help you! How terrible. I don't know what to say...because that's the LAST thing you needed to happen, and I can imagine where you are now, and it's beyond belief how everything is going. I'm really sorry.

Thanks Kmarie The more i think about this the madder i get! Maybe I just should forget about health insurance for now and put that money towards health.......like buying all organic and taking more herbs that I couldnt afford . Imagine having an extra 300.00 a month to spend on your health! Maybe this could be a blessing in disguise!

No kidding, that's almost the way they make people feel. I sure don't know, except this is all a bad situation, and something's gotta give where people's health is concerned.

Hello lil' kitty!
I've had Kaiser almost a year. Not too excited about it I didn't use it 'til after summer when I finally got my kids on board. My company pays all my premium, they pay some of my kids and I pay $250 portion for the kids health plan.
That's a lot of money to me and it took a lot for me to finally decide to do it 'cause you know me...I don't give a sh@t about Doctors. Well, with Kado throwing up like he was with blood in it, I figured that was pretty serious and better do it.
So far I'm totally digging them. My daughter got some glasses and has had a couple wart like growths removed.
My son had an endoscope done at OHSU at Kaisers expense and I've had a couple visits. They make it super easy, I mean they've got their plans and procedures down packed and it's a straight business. That can be good, can be bad.
They make many things so convenient. I can email our Doctors and can call and have prescriptions mailed to me instead of having to go pick them up. My doc has been more then generous on prescriptions for my recent sickness, a couple bottles of codeine cough syrup cause I had bronchitis and some Sudafed whoo hoo you can't buy over the counter anymore with like 5 refills 'cause that stuff is the bomb.
I still don't like to take a bunch of things but when you're sick and already miserable it's nice to reduce the symptoms so I can still work and just live...I was pretty sick though. But each Dr. visit is $10 for me and scripts the same. It adds up quick.
Now, I briefly touched on pain with my Doctor 'cause I've had pain in my feet. He called it plantar fasciitis. I call it part of the whole Fibro type pain I go through. I haven't addressed any skin or fibro issues with him because I don't expected to get any help with that. He says yeah I need to loose weight. Plantar fascitis is inflammation of the fascia of the foot and my recent weight gain could be a cause for that. But Dr. Clark says foot pain is bacteria thriving on deposits in the feet, toes, just like arthritis...and joint pain in which I get that too. It would be a number of bacteria I suppose (like Lyme/Mycoplasma/Clostridium who knows), so I zap and don't expect to fix that 'til I finally get my teeth fixed and get to what I consider a source.
So I guess if you don't plan on going for Morgs or any bacterial related, like systemic bacteria problems that they claim are auto immune related Kaiser has been okay by me. I don't know what they'd do if I rode them for some help with the above issues, but I know better then to expect help from them with "unknown" caused auto immune things. I'd rather stay my own route.
That sucks though...about Blue Cross and the whole raising because of a precondition, that so isn't cool and you'd think as unethical as it is would be illegal. My folks had Blue Cross forever and totally loved them. My Pops job recently switched to a cheaper carrier and my mother was pretty bummed about it.
Have you ever taken Melatonin for your insomnia?

Hey Carrie ! Thanks for all the great feedback about kaiser. My friend just got with them too and said so many good things about them so far and ditto about their have their act together, with paperwork and presciptions. My friend said it only took 3 days to get the insurance where anthem took THREE weeks to tell me they would only accept me on that cheaper plan with a 50 percent increase in the premium because of the doxepin. the doxepin only costs 10 dollars a month and thats paying cash! Blue cross/anthem Sucks and Im telling everyone I know ! ;D Im going to turn this around to be a better situation for me somehow. ive spent hours and hours researching plans and Kaiser is the by far the best deal for your money. But i like the idea of going without insurance even though it s risky. All the money Ive spent on insurance I could be driving a new vehicle instead ive had to drive old vehicles that breakdown with costly repairs and so much aggrevation . My friend had that foot problem too and shes free from pain I beleive now because she buys really good expensive shoes, ortho[edic I think. I will ask her for you.

Friskers - Your premium with Kaiser will only be $10 a month with 50% increase - so only $15 a month ?! Or did I totally misunderstand ? Will they cover anthing ? From what I understand, if there had not been a day's gap between the first and second insurance (if you had been insured with one one day and the next day insured with the new one) - the second would not be allowed to penalize you for pre-existing conditions. I think this a general thing - not specific to any given insurance company.

A littel off topic here, but didn't President Elect Obama in his campaign state that he was going to implement some kind of "no more pre existing condition clause".
Also, in news last week, it was stated that CANCER is going to be the next leading cause of death surpassing heart disease.
In my opinion, it will surpass heart disease because chemo and cancer treatments are so terribly expensive and it cost damn near $175,000 just to keep a cancer victim alive for one more year. The article I read was questioning is paying that amount of money was worth it for extending a life by only one year.
Yes it sounds terribly cruel. So it appears the well off can get the treatment and those without insurance don't go to the MD and get an early diagnosis and may be more prone to die of cancer.
What I am trying to say is that I am not sure that CANCER is going to be the first cause of death because I believe the diagnosis of "UNINSURED PERSON" will be the reason for the increased deaths from Cancer.

I wonder about what Pres. Elect Obama said - I recall him talking about cases of people - but did he mentioning changing it ? I guess he did. I hope so. How great would that be.

Heres what happened ....... originally they raised me to 357 a month with a 2500 deductable. Because of my age so I applied for a cheaper plan at 187 a month with a 3500 deductable , they wanted a 50 percent increase of premeum ,that would be 93.50 a month extra ( iwas rounding it off)for the doxepin or maybe it was an insomnia issue I dont know Im talking about bluesross/anthem not kaiser Ive only looked into kaiser as of now Yes they told me it takes 2 weeks so I made sure I still had my old plan in place so there would be no gap but they took 3 so my other I did not make a payment and canceled it when I found out they wanted to increase that one too Ive been with them at least 20 years and been on doxepin for 8 years now. The application asked about prescriptions and medical conditions so they are clearly upping rates . I just realized Im not being a very good exammple in practicing forgiveness here! LOL ;D

Sorry to hear about your run with the insurance.......You ask…….so here is my experience.
When I told my husband I was moving back to Louisiana( from Montana) to get medical help for Morgellons.....he called and canceled the insurance on me before I even left.
Every day he would call me crazy and make fun of me.....he had no idea what pain I was in at that time.
I'm so much better now, and I'm very thankful.....I sometimes think God allows some things to come into our life for a reason.......maybe it was the only way I would finally give up on our marriage and move out.
Well, that was my experience with Insurance. I know, that is not what you really meant....but I had to laugh....and share my experience.
I no longer have insurance.
